Well, this isn't the post I was meant to drop, but I just want to rub more salt on the wound of all the stupid TWITTER LAWYERS who are talking trash about VDM.

VDM (@thatverydarkman) has handled and helped resolve cases that many of you would never have handled. He has achieved more in that regard than many of you who proudly call yourselves lawyers but seem to exist mainly as social-media lawyers on Twitter, gossiping about one celebrity after another.

How many cases have you won since the beginning of this year?

No, how many cases have you won for your clients since this month alone?🤔

Do you know how many people got justice within 24 hours in the court of the Ratel President?

VDM has helped resolve and win more cases than many of you cheap content creator lawyers who are now enraged because he was invited to speak at the NBA tomorrow.

Guess what?

♦The President of the NBA saw all of you, yet VDM was chosen. Perhaps that should tell you something: VDM has something many of you clearly lack, which is a brain focused on solving problems rather than constantly ranting and hating online.

♦While your brains are occupied with attacking and hating VDM on social media, VDM's mind is focused on fighting for justice, even in situations affecting ordinary Nigerians.

♦Was it not last year that VDM intervened in a case involving a female justice after Sowore used Sahara Reporters and tried to blackmail her? Did Justice Mabel Segun-Bello not see all of you lawyers before taking the matter to VDM for him to look into it?

VDM is clearly more influential than all you Twitter EKUKE lawyers who are currently crying over his invitation to speak at the NBA.

clayton christensen spent his career studying why successful companies collapse. in his final class, he asked students to apply the theory to themselves: if you keep allocating your time the same way, what life are you actually building?

he had already seen the answer in his own harvard mba class. everyone looked successful at the fifth reunion; by the 10th, 15th, 20th, and 25th, many were unhappy, divorced, and living far from their children.

work shows you the score immediately. close a sale, ship a product, finish a presentation, earn a promotion, get paid.

an hour with your child may produce nothing you can measure today; it may take 20 years to understand what that hour built. so the next free hour goes back to work, one rational decision at a time.

this is how people build lives they never planned: through hundreds of right decisions that lead in the wrong direction, day after day.

money, titles, and headcount are easy to count. christensen believed a life should be measured by the people who became better because you were there.

one question remains: if someone saw only where your time, energy, and attention went this year, what would they think actually mattered to you?

1. No more ‘Section 21’ evictions. YES!
Landlords can no longer kick you out without a valid reason once your current notice expires. You’ll have more security, and evictions will now require a specific legal ground like wanting to sell or move back in.

2. Rolling Tenancies
Fixed-term contracts are ending. All tenancies will become ‘periodic’ (rolling) from day one, meaning there's no set end date. This gives you the flexibility to leave by giving 2 months’ notice at any time, rather than being locked in for a year.

3. Rent Increases
Fairer rules on rent hikes. Landlords can only increase your rent once a year and must give you at least 2 months' notice. You’ll also have the right to challenge any "above market" increases through a tribunal without fear of a revenge eviction.

4. Rental Bidding
There will be a ban on ‘Rental Bidding Wars’. Landlords and agents must now list a specific asking price and are legally banned from accepting offers above that price. This stops the "highest bidder" culture that has been driving up prices in popular areas.

5. Upfront Payments Again.
No Limits on rent in advance.
Yeye landlords can no longer ask for more than one month’s rent upfront. This lowers the massive "barrier to entry" cost that often stops people esp new immigrants and low earners, from moving into a new home.

6. Pets & Discrimination
Rights to pets and no more ‘DSS’ bans. You now have a legal right to request a pet, and landlords cannot "unreasonably" say no. It’s also now illegal for landlords to flat-out refuse tenants just because they have children or receive benefits.

7. The Paperwork
The mandatory Information Sheet. By May 31st, your landlord must give you an official government info sheet explaining these new rights. If they don't, they can be fined up to £7,000, so keep an eye on your inbox or letterbox.

The idea is just to balance the scores between Tenants and Landlords typically.

I have a contrary opinion and you may not like it.

On the surface, this sounds like motivation. In reality, it’s a reckless gamble that often backfires.

When I was starting out, a friend invited me to move into a 3 bed apartment in Banana Island so we could ‘stay motivated’. The rent was over N20million to split, plus N5million service charge. It made no financial sense, so I declined. He moved in with others.

One year later, they couldn’t afford to renew and moved out. That same year, I bought my first house.

Increasing expenses before income is a recipe for poverty. Successful people don’t rent expensive apartments to motivate themselves, they rent them because the money is already there.

This doesn’t mean you can’t change your environment, just not to one that puts pressure on you.

Financial pressure does not motivate you. Infact, it kills your creativity, narrows your thinking, and makes you desperate.

And desperate people make bad decisions.

The correct math is grow your income before you scale your lifestyle.
