@ThrillaRilla369 It’s a great question. The argument that makes the most sense to me is it’s the physical slice of earth you own in the country your tax dollars support for military and infrastructure. That said, it’s a thin argument. But to me it makes more sense than an income tax.

I think its a great thing that SpaceX, Anthropic (and OpenAI?) are going public. IPOs have been shrinking, and private markets have had an insane run on these companies. Yes the valuations are absurd, but when the dust settles, every day investors like myself get a chance to participate.

Look at the explosion in innovation in software over the last 30+ years. Look at how ossified the other disciplines are.

Its a trade off. Regulation increases safety and reliability, at the cost of speed. Software takes the fail fast and learn approach. Sometimes with severe consequences.

@RachelVT42 Yes. You think context switching at work is hard. Try doing it with your life. Pretty insane to go from production system outage to liquid diaper change running on 3 hours of sleep.

@SteveOnSpeed I have lived in a neighborhood with and without an HOA. Non HOA is amazing as long as you have good neighbors. It only takes one bad neighbor to ruin it for everyone. IMO, HOA is the lesser of 2 evils.

@Fair_and_Biased Resentment arises from the poorly managed social security system. It is a Ponzi scheme. We are all, already, paying a massive tax to carry all the elderly, many of who will draw more than they paid in. Properly managed, it would have cared for all and then some.

@texasrunnerDFW Agree property taxes are high, if they went down, would that not mean increase in sales tax etc to make up the difference? In other states, you also have state income Tax. Uncle Sam will get his, one way or another....
