Speed enforcement works
The 1st graph shows speed data collected on a residential road in W13. Limit is 20mph
The 2nd is the site of a pelican crossing outside Northfields station, also 20mph
3rd shows data collected at the site of a speed camera on Hanger Lane, 30mph limit
Today, we have written to @EalingCouncil to strongly oppose its plans for cycle lanes on the Ealing Hospital section of the Uxbridge Road.
Why?
Because they’re dangerous and don’t follow @TfL and DfT guidance.
SpeedPulse were pleased to contribute speed surveys from local streets for this resident's meeting. Our results tallied with residents' very real concerns, highlighting traffic volumes and speeds on their roads.
@EPLRra
Fantastic engagement from residents and a true community spirit discussing #ealingcouncil’s new Free-ranging Urban Neighborhood (FUN) plans to re-imagineer our roads!
⛔️ We pledged to win the powers we need off the Government to enforce 20mph speed limits.
So far the Govt haven’t let us - so we’ll be watching Wandsworth’s trial closely in the hope that it works, and that the government will finally allow us to act.

@_petermason Speeding is a very real problem in Ealing as everywhere
We look forward to both increased enforcement along with infrastructure that deters speeding

Residents asked us to record traffic speeds on their residential roads
The results are eye-opening 👀
• One location had 2 in every 3 vehicles speeding
• Another had a vehicle every 23 seconds, around 900,000 a year
• Speeds over 35mph were frequently seen in 20mph zones

No room for active travel here when it's snarled up, and when it isn't, watch out for speeding drivers!
Making streets safe for walking wheeling and cycling gives more people a chance to get around without using a car.
What are we waiting for?
We’ve been busy trying to improve speed data gathering with…
+ a ground up rewrite of code
+ improved hardware
+ an easy to use control app
+ better data collected
+ insightful data analysis

@IRockGreyHair @JoRigby_Balham We’ve developed a small, inexpensive radar based speed-logger to provide citizen based data gathering. The goal is to enable individuals and communities to gather data and highlight specific locations of concern to authorities.
@ILikedYourBike We explored this, but found this quite crude, and the system under the hood is not as clear as it should be for users to trust the results.
However, it is *the* project that motivated the SpeedPulse project: on-the-ground readings and unmanned logging sessions.
