@Faizafabz We have lots of generated capacity but lots of masses can’t afford to reach that tariff
Why not reduce the tariff entirely so as to ‘em get charcoal bracket into power usage, at end of the net amount collected will higher than currently is, and saving environment
I am in #Uganda, where the government has mounted a prompt and capable response to the outbreak of #Ebola.
Screening at the borders helped detect cases arriving from neighbouring #DRC, and the country’s surveillance, testing and case management systems are doing steady work. Of the 19 confirmed cases so far, 14 were among people who entered from DRC and five are Ugandan nationals. Sadly, two people from DRC have died, and our thoughts are with their families.
@WHO is supporting Uganda, alongside @AfricaCDC and partners across the region, as the country leads this response.
With continued collaboration, I am confident this outbreak can be brought under control.
Tanzania's two largest banks have overtaken their Kenyan counterparts in market value for the first time ever, as East Africa's corporate landscape shifts in ways few anticipated.
CRDB Bank and NMB Bank have both surged from under $1bn to $2.7bn in a single year, while the number of East African companies valued at more than $1bn has risen from 8 to 14. Safaricom remains the region's dominant force, but Tanzania's growing influence is a standout story.

Straight from the swearing in ceremony, I dashed to luwero to flag-off the inaugural export of 104 metric tonnes of canned ( processed ) pineapples to China by DESHIBURG company, one of the investors in the Uganda-China Agriculture Cooperation industrial park.
Deshiburg company is the first investor to set up a dedicated canned pineapple factory in uganda with capacity to process 500 tonne per day. This increases the demand for pineapples as a raw material and ends the perennial challenge of lack of market for our perishable Agriculture produce. It places a challenge to our farmers to produce more for this demand.
I have made a clarion call to the local political leaders & Agriculture extension personnel, to mobilise & guide our farmers to start intentional farming:- farming that targets to meet existing demand of a particular agro-raw material sustainably. This huge proliferation of agro-industries speaks to farmers only one message; produce, produce and produce more! The excuses of no markets for Agricultural produce is no more with this revolution of agro-industrialisation !
Produce for own food , produce for the market ( domestic, regional and international ) and please do so following the acceptable standards, was my message to the farmers!
We are finally on Sumatera Island in Indonesia and today completely shifted my perspective on scale in agriculture. It was cattle Literally Everywhere
Juan Juay Feedlot left me absolutely mind blown. A feedlot carrying 24,000 head of cattle, run by 540 workers-across 187 hectares of land. Out of that, 80 hectares are dedicated to maize production and even that is nowhere near enough to feed the demand of the operation.
What fascinated me most was how data-driven the business is. The cattle are shipped in from Australia, then fattened here in Indonesia before entering the market. They don’t work with fixed selling prices, so forecasting becomes everything. Every decision is backed by market data and analysts because when you’re selling 200 cattle every single day, small market changes become massive business decisions.
A few things that stood out to me today:
• Agriculture at this scale operates more like a corporation than a traditional farm
• Feed security is one of the biggest challenges in livestock production
• Data analysis is now just as important as animal husbandry
• Indonesia’s demand for beef is creating huge opportunities across the value chain
• Logistics alone at this scale are unbelievable from importing cattle to feeding, processing, staffing and daily sales
This Global Focus Program continues to show me that agriculture is not just farming its economics, logistics, technology, people management and global trade all working together.
Still trying to process what 24,000 cattle actually looks like in real life.

A warm welcome to Monica Juma from #Kenya, the new Director-General of #UNVienna and Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime @UNODC, on her first day in the office today.

In December 2013, an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 767 flight ET815 from Addis Ababa to Kilimanjaro mistakenly touched down at Arusha Airport, around 50 km from its intended destination.
The aircraft managed to stop on Arusha's 1,620m/5,314ft runway, stopping near its end. The nose gear became stuck in soft ground while maneuvering.
The video shows the 767 taking off two days later.

@drkasenene@UDLSOfficial@MoWT_Uganda Commendable indeed
I suggest such routine actions be done online, no need to visit physically. Govt wants revenues, shd be made simpler to get paid.
Kabushenga’s Thoughts
A Life of Exercise
Folks, this is for those of you whose parents are my generation or older. This morning along with my guys from the @mutungomadbus I did the 25km segment of the @KyambogoRun. After that I went to my spin class, for another challenge where we are doing 26 classes for the month of May.
My guys in both communities keep asking why I am doing this to myself. They think I am overdoing it & punishing myself. The answer is simple. A life of exercise like the one I live, is a hack against chronic illness. It significantly reduces chances of this happening by a wide margin. If it occurs, a person in good physical shape has a better fighting chance of curing or at least obviating the worst effects.
So what is my point? It is cheaper to do this than pay for medical treatment for chronic illness. So rather than dealing with the burden of fundraising for this & pain of nursing parents that are ill. If in fact you get your parents to switch to a life of exercise and change thier relationship with food, you will avoid this. I am not suggesting a crazy regime like mine. No. Just a daily walk, a cycling class, a nutrition approach that improves one’s metabolic health, good sleep, good content(reading books) & good company, will save you from stress of what I described earlier. The medical option should be complete last resort and you can do this. Share what I have posted with your folks. Have a lovely weekend
I've always told my PhD students that a PhD is a marathon and not a sprint. Now that Sabastian Sawe has run the London Marathon in under 2 hours, I'll need to think of something else to tell them.
