Trump went to Iowa to proclaim, "Nobody has ever done more for Iowa and the farm belt and the farmers." He then went on to talk about conspiracies and whine about witch hunts.

So Let's talk about what Trump did for farmers:

Almost immediately after Trump took office, his administration began enacting an agenda to systematically defund essential rural services and programs.

The Trump administration granted 85 oil refineries a pass from buying 4 billion gallons of renewable fuel, killing demand for 1.4 billion bushels of corn used to make it.

America’s farmers bore the brunt of China’s retaliation in the trade war that President Donald Trump launched in 2018. In Iowa alone, the damage to corn, soybean, and hog markets was estimated at almost $1.7 billion.

Trump’s disastrous policies contributed to more than 2,000 dairy farms closing their barn doors forever, and record numbers of rural families filing for bankruptcy.

We know and research has shown that green policies can bring an additional $8 billion annually to rural communities. Yet, Trump spent his time in office rolling back environmental protections and ramping up fossil fuel development.

Trump's failed response to the COVID crisis left those who help feed the country reeling from the impact with many having to dump milk, burn crops, and euthanize livestock because there were no markets in which to sell their products.

There is always a human cost to Trump's ill-informed politics and policies and America's farmers paid a steep one. If Trump wins the 2024 election what’s left of the agriculture industry is going to be in tatters. We really are better with Biden.
