HAW Daily Brief 1/1 China: Five Years After Conviction, PEN International Renews Call For Imprisoned Writer Yang Hengjun’s Release
https://t.co/QAoLrOPWCF
UK - Pen International
‘Five years after Yang Hengjun’s secret trial, the injustice he faces remains as stark as ever. A writer should never face imprisonment, let alone a suspended death sentence, for peacefully expressing ideas and engaging in public debate. The Chinese authorities must quash Yang’s conviction, end his prolonged ordeal, and release him,’ said @ThidaWriter, Chair of @pen_int's Writers in Prison Committee.
British couple Craig and Lindsay Foreman, who are being held in Iran, have lost their appeal against a 10-year prison sentence, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing their family.
The family said the couple were not allowed to attend the appeal hearing and had little information about the proceedings.
The Foremans were sentenced to 10 years in a Tehran prison after Iran charged them with espionage, allegations they deny.

Lindsay and Craig’s appeal against their baseless ten-year espionage conviction has failed; an appeal they were not permitted to attend, the appeal was as troubling as the outcome itself.
We refuse to look away.
We refuse to be silent.

More than seven years of 🇦🇺 Yang Hengjun’s life have been spent in unlawful detention in China. Today, he remains imprisoned under a suspended death sentence, with serious concerns surrounding his health.
@AlboMP@SenatorWong, 7 years of statements & concern have not brought Dr. Yang home. What more must he endure before his freedom becomes an urgent priority? How many more years must pass before Australia brings one of its own home? Please act now to #FreeYangHengjun!

Spreading Justice new report documents a sharp rise in political and security-related executions in Iran following the January 2026 protests. Between March 18 and May 18, at least 32 people were executed after grossly unfair trials, including 18-year-old Amirhossein Hatami.
The report identifies judges and senior judiciary officials allegedly responsible for arbitrary death sentences and highlights recurring violations such as forced confessions, denial of legal counsel, closed hearings, and torture. It warns that Iran is increasingly using the death penalty as a tool of political repression and calls for accountability, justice, and an end to impunity. Day 3,690 of injustice for Ahmadreza Djalali & his family. They have carried a huge burden of suffering for over ten years. So much has been stolen from their lives. Their supporters will not forget them or stop calling on you to do all you can to #SaveAhmadreza@MariaStenergard
Every day that Ahmadreza Djalali is not free is one day too many!
Ten years later, still no concrete action.
His heart has already weakened, his hope is fading.
Time for more than just words.

Another day in a cage. Ahmadreza Djalali horrifically held hostage over 10 years. Trapped between a regime that refuses to let him go & a government still dragging its feet in securing his release. This is not acceptable @SwedishPM@SweMFA@MariaStenergard@araghchi@drpezeshkian
HAW Daily Brief 1/2 British Couple Lose Iran Jail Sentence Appeal, Family Says
https://t.co/82hgku3q5E
UK - BBC
British couple, Lindsay and Craig Foreman, jailed in Iran on espionage charges have lost an appeal against their 10-year sentence, according to their family. A member of their legal team in the UK told the BBC no reason was given for the rejection of their appeal. Lindsay's son, Joe Bennett, said they were "not permitted to attend their own appeal hearing". A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are disappointed by the appeal decision and will continue working to ensure that Craig and Lindsay are returned safely to the UK."
Their case has now been passed to the Supreme Court, according to Bennett, although the family do not understand the legal process or the timeline of what might happen next. @freelindscraig
2/2 Kourosh Keivani: Traveled to Iran to Visit His Mother, Was Executed
https://t.co/9HaGUZT4yo
UK - Iran Wire
Kourosh Keivani arrived in Iran on May 29, 2025, for a short trip that was meant to last only a few weeks, shortly before the outbreak of the 12-day war between Iran and Israel. However, on the fourth day of the war, everything changed. On June 16, 2025, Kourosh was riding a dirt bike intended for jumping over the hills of Kordan. On his way back from the area, he was stopped at a security checkpoint. According to the source, checkpoint agents confiscated his mobile phone and identity documents on the spot during the initial stop. They then went to his rented villa and searched it as well. Kourosh had his passport with him as identification, along with a sum of US dollars in a waist pouch, all of which were seized and added to his case file.
