@JayOnSC@TSN_Sports@CraigJButton@JayOnrait Here’s my thought…he’s a good SoCal kid whose close knit family moved to Michigan to further his and Nick’s hockey careers. This is his opportunity to “pay back his parents” and go back to Cali. and play the next 8 years there.
@JeffVeillette@SportsSturm If he makes it public knowledge, it hurts the Stars bargaining ability by allowing other teams to know what he wants. He’s doing the best thing for everyone involved. He didn’t demand a trade and played out his contract. Now he wants to go elsewhere. That’s a quality human there.
@NHL_Watcher Exactly! He’s a good family dude from SoCal. His parents moved the family to Michigan to better his (and his brother’s) hockey opportunities. Maybe he’s paying them back by wanting to play for a California team. If that’s the case, I have more respect for him than ever.
@RobertTiffin Here’s another thing about playing for a contender…over an 8 year contract, no one can know who that is from year to year. 8 years is a long time to choose a team on whether they will contend or not. Who will be the Cup contenders 4 years from now? 🤷🏼♂️

@RobertTiffin My guess is he wants a California team on the rise, and a few million difference on a contract elsewhere doesn’t matter to him. Then it becomes a negotiating deal between that team and the Stars that always comes down to the last minute so the Stars can maximize their return.
@seanshapiro@RobertTiffin He can always go to arbitration, play another year with the Stars and then go wherever he wants as a UFA. The drawback for him with that is he would need to have a great season as you want with any contract year.
@Lassimak@dmn_stars@FriedgeHNIC Some players realize how much is enough, and their reputation and legacy is more than money. For a great example of that, I would ask that you go to PuckPedia and research Sidney Crosby’s contract history and annual AAV.
@samnestler@JacDods The one aspect you’re leaving out is a team in a location where he wants to live.
Ask yourself, what is my biggest factor in life happiness and fulfillment? Not everyone’s is the same. Remember, he’s a California boy.
@ShortHandedZS Exactly! And when Benn signed his deal before the start of the 2017-18 season, it was 12.67% of the cap. Seguin's deal 2 years later was 12.09%.
@SportsSturm I don’t know him personally, but I think he’s a good human that comes from a good values, quality family.
Bob, you’re just making yourself look bad by bad-mouthing him and thinking life is about nothing more than the almighty $.
@SportsSturm Maybe he doesn’t want to live the next 8 years in Texas, and this is his chance to do that the best way possible for himself and the Stars. Regardless of where he goes, he and his family will have enough money, and life isn’t about making the most $.
@miroismyhero@SportsSturm I forgot to mention if he does a sign and trade now which is the only way I can see a team taking him, that contract could be 8 years.
@miroismyhero@SportsSturm You don’t know that. There are many other factors that go into someone’s overall costs than just a state tax - insurance rates, property taxes, cost of living to name a few.
