The best of British aren’t the silly attention seekers daubing red paint all over the place. The best of us are folks like the forty volunteers who litter pick our park every week, or the beach cleanup people who go to our local beach after the weekends & make it nice for us all.
@juneslater17 If having bought a house is going to be a requirement, there are going to be increasing numbers of people in their 30s and 40s who are disqualified from voting. Having a child and running a business are pretty exclusive requirements too.
@Jenny_1884 No. The emissions causing rapid, global climate change can only be reduced sufficiently by rapid, global action - including achieving “net zero” carbon emissions globally. Every nation has to take action, collectively. The UK can’t just opt out.
@AK2MX2K@Wokewaster As a Christian, do you ever ask yourself the simple question “what would Jesus have done”? If the answer is “sink the boat and let them drown”, I think you might have been reading the wrong book.
@JamesMelville Reading most of the comments in response to this post, it’s a bit surprising that so many people either didn’t notice the word “recommend” or don’t understand what it means.
@Geoff_Hobbs@andreajenkyns@TiceRichard @LouthHcreformuk And wouldn’t you think making ourselves self-sufficient in renewable energy would be important too? We need to do both. That means serious conversations - not silly slogans - striking a workable balance, planning ahead, making some big changes, & keeping long-term commitments.
@sharrond62 Q: When did we become this sort of society?
A: Well, it must be at least a quarter of a century ago, as evidenced by this Church of England publication - https://t.co/2rbcqCjY02 https://t.co/2rbcqCjY02
@JENBROOK8@JamesAThurber@carlafrancome Personally, I don’t. It would be great to see more play streets and streets where motor vehicles don’t have priority though - in suitable places.
Today, the Government launches plans to fast-track driverless vehicle trials in the UK.
One of the companies involved says London presents a big challenge:
“It has seven times more jaywalkers than San Francisco.”
Except… it doesn't. 🧵
…and it’s so easy to make thought-inspiring, discussion-prompting images of what your own “high street” could be like. Here are some that ChatGPT quickly produced for me during last week’s #CUF2025 urban planning conference in Trinidad - one’s Lincoln UK, one’s Port of Spain TT.
'We can't change our city. We're not Amsterdam!'
Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris: 'Hold my 🥐!':

Lower pollution, improve health
@RepRileyMoore@Keir_Starmer Just for the sake of accuracy (should you be interested), those definitions come from terrorism prevention guidance that - although current - was published before the present UK government took office, and sits alongside definitions of left wing and Islamist terrorism too.
