Canada’s greatest weakness may be its arrogance, the belief that we remain a global example simply because we keep telling ourselves we are.

We boast about our healthcare, institutions, economy and moral leadership while ignoring the dysfunction, declining services and falling standard of living right in front of us.

Patriotism is not pretending everything is fine. It is caring enough about your country to confront reality, demand better and do the hard work required to rebuild it.

Canada’s reputation cannot survive indefinitely on nostalgia and self-congratulation.

A country that believes it is above criticism will soon find itself beneath the standards it once claimed to represent.

Mark Carney keeps telling Canadians that Canada can simply pivot away from the United States and replace American trade with the rest of the world.

Statistics Canada just demolished that fantasy.

July was a RECORD month for Canadian merchandise exports outside the United States.

And even at that record, the entire rest of the world accounted for just 33.7% of Canadian exports.

The United States alone took 66.3%.

Read that again.

America bought nearly TWICE as much from Canada as every other country on Earth combined.

It gets worse.

Canada ran a $5.9 BILLION merchandise trade surplus with the United States.

With the rest of the world?

A roughly $5.1 BILLION deficit.

That is the economic relationship Carney wants Canadians to believe can simply be replaced.

Canada's record-breaking attempt at trade diversification still left the country overwhelmingly dependent on American buyers, while its trade with the rest of the world remained in deficit.

You cannot replace the world's richest market sitting directly on your border with speeches, summits, and promises about "diversification."

Carney’s rhetoric cannot hide the economic devastation now bearing down on Canada.

Yes. Recent IMF analysis puts Canada's interprovincial barriers at the equivalent of a 9% tariff overall (over 40% in some services). Bank of Canada data show the average US tariff on Canadian goods at about 5% as of mid-2026. Even if new 50% duties on roughly 5% of goods take effect, the overall average stays lower.
