@Fit_For_Golf Mike I am sure I saw you post a link a while ago to the bands you use in the videos, but I can’t find it anywhere on twitter blog or app! Can you reshare please? Thanks!
Almost every business and public service I meet in my constituency faces serious problems with regulation and regulators.
Wonks often very smugly say nobody can point to regulations that should go, so this is a rolling thread listing the examples I find every week (1/n).
@thomasforth I have a friend who got hired on a temp contract (can’t remember if it was a few weeks or few months, but definitely several days) to ‘copy and paste the value for this ID in the table in this excel tab into the value for that ID in this tab’. She said ‘so you mean a Vlookup?’
This is incredible ⚡⚡
Aleksandra Miroslaw broke the world record in the women's speed climbing in Paris... then broke it again in the second heat!

@LukeTryl Luke, long time! How are you?
Fascinated whether any Tory MPs (who collectively definitely don’t get it) ever sit you down and ask about your focus groups? Everything you say chimes with day to day conversations, but MP solutions always seem to be tax cuts, Rwanda, new leader
Don’t think household income is the right comparison with private rented sector. As single people end up renting in bigger groups than they would prefer to, artificially inflating household incomes? @rcolvile ?
Crudely applying the average +0.7ppt increase in rent growth between the new and old series to data from 1996, the rent line ends up ~200 in this chart. Still lagging median incomes (at 210) albeit by a lot less
(The grey line is FRS data and then the old rent index from 2005)
@Beyond_Topline @AtakinMarcus @Samfr Croydon Labour’s failings were definitely less salient in 2021 than in the borough elections the following year. (Look at New Addington North in 2022 vs 2021 by-election). But possible that the salience has slipped back to 2021 levels by now.
‘He was a good man, a decent man. In the sense that he is the first SNP first minister not to be arrested on serious criminal charges, this is true’.
Brilliant epitaph for Hamza Yusuf from @tompeck

@GavinBarwell In fairness Starmer took a similar approach with Labour members and then moved toward voters as he strengthened his leadership.
Question is whether next Conservative leader will be given as many opportunities to strengthen their leadership as Conservatives have given Starmer
Perhaps the sweet spot is Democratic Mayors (I'm gonna raise taxes and make investments and give planning permissions) in Republican States (raise your taxes locally, let me keep mine low, and let me keep my guns and my truck, and let me run my schools and we'll be buddies).
@Samfr Yes it’s more complex and nuanced than that.
And yes not many buses will run in rural areas (but another of @thomasforth’s profound points is we run far too many buses…)
