From my IG page. I'll admit, I used to be skeptical as well. But the evidence is now compelling on the topic. Please share so we can ultimately put to rest the myth that you can't appreciably build muscle with light loads 💪
5/10: Participants felt the equipment available within National Health Service (NHS) MSK settings to be inadequate for effectively teaching and progressing patients with multi-joint resistance exercises #PTTC20
@BillingMartin We do chronically underload MSK conditions
Several reasons;
physios often do not understand S & C principles,
are unclear about the load that exercises place on structures and
for me the key thing is that they HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A GYM THEMSELVES
A thread of our series;
Being Black in Physiotherapy by @CrouchPhysio & myself.
This is a 3-part series highlighting the issues in Physiotherapy & offering solutions on how our profession can improve
Initially released this on Instagram but decided to bring it to Twitter too!
Though this statement is appreciated, I hope @thecsp put ACTIONS behind their words. Systematic racism is an issue that greatly affects Physiotherapy & needs change to support current and aspiring physiotherapists to make them feel welcome & a normal part of the profession.
1/10: A qualitative study of physiotherapy students’ experiences of the implementation of resistance exercise principles in MSK outpatient settings on clinical placement #PTTC20

6/10 The aim of this research is to explore the student – practice educator relationship during practice education and its impact on students’ perceptions of their profession and future practice. #PTTC20
6/10: Students reported that clinical educators significantly influenced their practice; often citing ‘mimicry’ as a behaviour. This could provide barriers or enablers to implementing SPORT principles in practice based on educator experience/knowledge #PTTC20
