Have you ever wondered why people seemingly dressed better in the past? There are many reasons, such as the wide availability of skilled tailors. But an overlooked one has to do with how fabrics have changed over time. 🧵
In complete agreement with you on the quality of the material. It seems old clothes have longevity, and newer items even in the luxury sphere have lost that quality of yesteryear #Fashion
Sometimes I think about how cheap clothing 10 or 20 years ago is often better than mid clothing now. I have t-shirts from college that I bought at Target I still wear regularly. However cotton is literally not the same now as it was then, and clothes aren’t being sewn the same.
One thing I think is really difficult when talking about fabrics from the past is people understanding just how much longer everything took. We don't have a concept of that now because all of our fabric is machine made. But in the past, certain types of textiles could take years.

Frida Kahlo faced immense hardships during her final years. The renowned Mexican painter underwent multiple unsuccessful back surgeries, had gangrenous toes leading to the amputation of her right leg, and endured emotional pain due to her husband's affairs, including one with her sister. Additionally, she battled depression, anxiety, and became heavily reliant on painkillers. She expressed thoughts of self-harm but found solace in her connection with her husband, Diego. On July 13, 1954, she passed away at the age of 47. Frida Kahlo's legacy continues to shine brightly as one of the most significant artists of the 20th century.
