How to look after your Long Range Tesla Battery!
Advice from Jeff Dahn, who's lab is partnered with @Tesla: https://t.co/qaWZxeNJDn
The key takeways of this video are:
1) Jeff's advice in the video only applies to high nickel batteries in long range vehicles! Not LFP standard range vehicles.
2) High temperatures kill batteries. If you go on a holiday/vacation during the summer, leave your vehicle at a low SOC (state of charge). For example: At or below 30% SOC
3) Cycle within a narrow SOC range. For example: 40-60% rather than 10-80%. The cathode expands and contracts in a wider SOC range, which causes it to break apart.
4) On that note: The lower the narrower the SOC range, the better. That means charging frequently.
5) Avoid charging the vehicle above 75% SOC. Above 75% side reactions start occuring that cause degradation. This also reduces the volume expansion issues mentioned in 3).
6) Taking all variables into account, operating between 45-70% SOC and storage at ~30% is ideal.
7) Occasional high SOC and wide SOC range are okay! For example, the occasional roadtrip.
8) With good thermal management hardware and battery managment software, supercharging should have minimal negative effect on cycle life.

It's worth watching because Jeff Dahn is one of the fathers of the Lithium Ion battery and his lab is partnered with Tesla.
Texas is requiring NACS on state-funded EV infrastructure:
"The decision by @Ford, @GM, & now @Rivian to adopt NACS changed requirements for Phase 1. Each Direct Current Fast Charge port will be required to have 1 CCS connector & 1 NACS connector," the Texas Department of Transportation said in an email to Reuters on Tuesday.

At today’s prices $30 billion would get you 20 GW of solar and 10,000 Tesla megapack 2 XL.
This would basically guarantee you baseload characteristics that are not inferior to the 2.2 GW nameplate nuke while also replacing a large number of peaking plants and average daily power generation that would be double that of the nuke. Additionally you could distribute this generation and storage to provide support to the grid increasing reliability and reducing transmission costs. Replacing some of the solar with wind would improve reliability further by decorrelating power generation. And of course operating costs would be tiny compared to the nuke since renewables have no fuel cost, very little maintenance, no disposal issues, and don’t require insurance from the federal government.
So renewables are basically at cost parity for worst case baseload requirements and vastly superior in every other respect. And renewables with storage continue to decline in cost very rapidly. It’s not much of a contest right now and in another five or 10 years it’ll be a complete no-brainer on all counts.
These two slides unveil Tesla's compact car without showing the car.
50% cost reduction vs current volume production (~$39k) = ~$20k COGS.
Next Gen ~30% cheaper than Model 3 Base = ~$29k Starting Price.
29k - 20k = ~30% margin
$TSLA
EXCLUSIVE $TSLA 🧵: I spoke with Tom Zhu after the #InvestorDay presentation and he shared key information that is not known until now.
I’m convinced he will be @Tesla’s next CEO after @elonmusk. He’s charismatic, succinct, incredibly intelligent and acts with a great sense of urgency. He will be our Tim 🍏 Cook!
Here is what he told me 1/x
Elon, manual preconditioning for fast charging is a must in Canadian winter where there are a lot of 3rd party fast chargers. Could Tesla please enable that feature to help us charge in the cold? @elonmusk@wholemars
Important step towards accelerating our transition to a sustainable future!
Exciting to witness the rapid expansion of the Tesla Supercharger network, which will soon open access to other vehicle manufacturers.

Cathode is the single most expensive & critical component in an EV; all the lithium, nickel, & cobalt are contained inside this battery material. Today's supply chain funnels through Asia where nearly all cathode is made. Redwood is collapsing this 50K mile map on a single site.
@Erdayastronaut@elonmusk A tap on the accelerator pedal will prompt the vehicle to slow down.
I'm frustrated by this functionality as well, desired behavior would be slowing down as soon as the set speed is changed...
@garyblack00 Gary I'd love your thoughts on this assertion from that article: "in a classical attempt to spark a gamma squeeze, made popular by what Elon Musk's offshore investing unit did with Tesla repeatedly in 2020 and 2021"
"It is foreseeable that with the power of robots, we will create an era of extreme abundance of goods and services, where everyone can live a life of abundance. Perhaps the only scarcity that will exist in the future is for us to create ourselves as humans."
As promised, EXCLUSIVE translation of @elonmusk's article in China Cyberspace. Musk goes over his endeavours in clean energy, robot, brain-machine interface technology and space travel for a Chinese audience. h/t @ZichenWanghere https://t.co/1XKjMeUS4l
