Achieving peak performance necessitates the courage to look within oneself. Lilli Cooper’s honest and intriguing look at overcoming the tremor - privileged to play a small part here.

Short breaks during operations might be good for us in all kind of ways and not even make the operating time any longer. Who takes deliberate breaks during a case? (with thanks to BBC R4 Just One Thing) #surgery@asgbi

To all clinicians who perform procedures, we have tried to open up the taboo topic of #stagefright / #performance anxiety. Like pro musicians&athletes etc, it’s normal and we need to acknowledge & provide training/support. #surgery@RCSnews@SurgPerform
Interesting topic. I’ve always felt a small amount of performance anxiety helps keep surgeons out of trouble. Too much is unhealthy and should be compensated by senior/ partner support and mentorship. All surgeons should have a “Redline” , the boundaries of their expertise.
@TsengJennifer@SyedAAhmad5 We agree and also found that 70% of responders felt SPA could have a positive impact on performance. However, should surgeons be taught to recognise +/- control anxiety in surgery to improve performance?
Very important study on a topic not spoken openly about but clearly exist in our training and workplace. Time for culture change @Murali_HPBSurg @CtanzDavid @MarkarSheraz @JessieAElliott @AstecAustin https://t.co/FfLTtNzrnk
@NahaiDr@ASJrnl@TheAestheticSoc@NahaiDr Maybe we now have an answer! 87% of surgeons experienced surgical performance anxiety in our U.K. cohort... I wonder if that is the same internationally 🤔
