Today, @AUC_PAPS is convening a pivotal 3-day Technical Consultative Meeting with RECs and technical experts to review two landmark instruments: the Draft AU Policy Framework on Women's Equal Participation in Mediation and Peace Processes and the Draft Principles on the Integration of Women in Mediation, a critical step toward institutionalizing women's meaningful and influential participation across #AU peace processes.

In their opening remarks, Amb. @madutdet, Head of the Mediation and Dialogue Division and Ms. @mpoumoudoris, Special Representative of the @UN Women Liaison Office to the AU and UNECA, underscored the need to move from dialogue to decisive implementation.

To achieve this, the meeting will pursue four interconnected objectives: (i) to address and dismantle structural barriers by providing targeted, substantive feedback that breaks systemic exclusion; (ii), to amplify proven practice by showcasing successful integration of women in mediation from RECs, @FemWiseAfrica, and experts across local, national, and regional levels; (iii) to enforce accountability by proposing practical and implementable measures including binding quotas and gender-sensitive capacity building that make inclusion mandatory, not optional; and (iv), to forge AU-RECs consensus that transforms shared commitments into action-oriented recommendations, ensuring these documents become operational, not aspirational.
