Not every kid from care ends up in jail or in mental health wards. But, let me tell you, it's incredibly hard to steer yourself away from the stigma, that vicious vortex of failure after failure. Those who break free have to fight even harder to level up. Education and employment come with huge sacrifices. No life. At 18, there are no holidays with your mates. Staying alive is a priority. Food and travel come before any nice clothes. If you're sick, you're sick. Especially if you have no family or very few friends. Every young person in our care system deserves the chance to live a good life. Make care experience a protected characteristic. #changeiscoming children in care are still children. #Thestateofit

@NHSHealthyStart We have young parent struggling to apply online who may not have a NI number. The online application needs to be clearer for young parents. Many are giving up applying as it’s too difficult and many are receiving rejection letters following applications who are entitled to it.
