I wish we would stop demonising #Ragwort. This incredible #wildflower was absolutely covered in insects today, including #bees, hoverflies, flies and #butterflies, and this is just a small percentage of the #wildlife that relies on it.
The fact is, this plant is not harmful to animals, unless fed within a bale of already processed hay.
@AndrewS90812090 @_JoelAshton@Jo_WhiteheadUK@jake_fiennes They haven't been mown for silage for many years (relative to the history of agriculture in UK) hay cutting happens later so the birds have more chance to nest successfully. Silage grass is also often managed to grow fast, using artificial fertilisers.
@Ben_Sheldon_EGI @RSPBotmoor Your photos are just a little bit better than mine from the evening sighting!π€£π Thanks for sharing them ! What a bird!
Why are @thameswater illegally discharging untreated sewage from Wantage STW into Letcombe Brook, a rare chalk stream? How much worse will this get with all the new housing going in?! @WhiteHorseDC
And today I saw the standing water in the field opposite Bellingers where more houses are planned. Where is that water to go when the site is built over?
I am very sad to see that 'my' little brook is being used as a place to dump sewage. But not surprised when Wantage has had so much development without the infrastructure to deal with the extra waste water.
Didnβt @JamesBevanEA once claim untreated sewage wasnβt discharged into chalk streams? Well thatβs another 9hrs discharged into Letcombe Brook, a chalk stream in Oxfordshire. 5th discharge of 2023, disgraceful @thameswater@Feargal_Sharkey@WindrushWasp
@IoloWilliams2 I could weep with frustration. At a time of climate and environmental emergency - when brave decisions need to be made URGENTLY - we have this arrogant apathetic display. Does no one in government care? It's terrifying.
@LetcombeBP@Feargal_Sharkey@EnvAgency @CWhittaker_MP He only knows or cares about what is just outside Parliament. Like the majority of politicians and population of the country, he has become disconnected from anything to do with the natural world. It makes decision-making easier when you no longer care.
Typical scenes from a river when walking the banks but also filming underwater. And 2023 will be worse. 2nd year running in some areas i film more sewage litter than fish. In September 2000 rivers had overall health of 92% we are at 14% now. #rivers#freshwaterfish
