Not destructive. Not panicked. Just sitting. Waiting. Doing what he had always taught them to do. They came to our shelter with nothing. No records. No vet history. No family contact. Max is 6. Buddy is 5. Both healthy. Both gentle. Both heartbreakingly good dogs. Neither one will do well separated. They have never spent a night apart. They were somebody's whole world. ICE detain autistic child at unknown location—now mother & son finally reunited after separated for 50 days.

He asked to use bathroom and disappeared—he was helping family sell fruit—not alone or "unaccompanied."

Mother reported him missing 6 days in a row—turns out ICE had him classified as "unaccompanied minor" and detained.

Mother called local police to file a report—but wasn't told her son was detained at the Refugee Resettlement Office until a week later.

Then he had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency appendix surgery—especially terrifying to go through alone for the 15-year-old boy who functions "like a 4-year-old" due to his autism.

Emmanuel Gonzalez-Garcia and his mother still are at risk of deportation—but he was finally released back into her custody in Houston, Texas. #DemsUnited
