We are paying $3400 for infant daycare at Harvard. In 2017 as a first year postdoc, this is higher than my post tax salary. It does not make sense financially to work as a postdoc and to raise a kid. You wonder why some women quit science at this point??
This semester I am teaching graduate chemical engineering kinetics using a flipped classroom for the first time. My video lectures are all available on YouTube for anyone who may find them useful!

Because @UofCalifornia has tried to suppress faculty support for employees striking today, I think it particularly important to say that I offer my complete solidarity with @uaw2865 @UAW5810 and their effort to improve the living and working conditions at UC.
Let's all show that @ucalifornia can't function without the underpaid labor of graduate students, postdocs and student researchers - and that they deserve a wage that they can live on without being rent burdened or food insecure
Super excited to visit @BalskusLab next week! During my PhD I have discovered very interesting enzymes with potential novel chemistry. I can’t wait to share my science with the Balskus lab but also learn some anaerobic biochemistry and enzymology. Thanks @ResUniAlliance!

We are of course not limited to sinewaves. We illustrate this by reproducing an iconic scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I believe we now hold the title for most ridiculously convoluted way to display a movie. @seth_shipman 4/
Very excited to share our new preprint where we use a deep learning-based feedback algorithm to control gene expression in real time in thousands of single E. coli cells in parallel. This work was led by @jblugagne and @cblassick. 1/
