"£2,100 a month... and the THIRD bedroom isn't even inside the flat." 🤯
This might be one of the worst rentals in London.
But this isn't just a story about one terrible flat. It's about how planning laws and government intervention have helped create the UK's housing crisis.
I’m largely pro abundance, but I also think we’d never recognise it if we ever achieved it. We have a remarkable capacity to manufacture and invent scarcity where it needn’t or doesn’t exist (see “relative poverty”, discretionary planning systems, etc).
@thomasknox They should all read The High Crusade by Poul Anderson. Aliens land in 14th century England, knights immediately storm the ship and go a crusading amongst the stars for St George and merry England.
@orm0nde Indeed, Prince Rupert was scolded by his own side for being too harsh and bringing brutal continental war practices to England. It could have been much bloodier than it was.
@vividvoid Yes! If you listen carefully, you can hear jays, crows, and robins do this, tucked away in hedges and trees. They sing a little subsong or whisper song to themselves. Some of it is juvenile birds practising, like babies babbling, but adults do it too.
Nor would eating be an issue. Hunger was a condition occasioned by man's fall from grace, and, once he was free from the corrupting desires of earth and the terrestrial gravitas no longer pulled upon his digestive organs, he would have no need to eat.
