"A next generation trade arrangement should not be limited to tariff preferences or broad declarations on sustainable development. It should make low-carbon production investable."

In this new SYNERGIES article, @JorgeArbache, Professor of Economics at Universidade de Brasília argues that next generation trade arrangements should move beyond broad promises and create product-specific green corridors.

🌍 "This moment is not only a crisis to survive. It is an opportunity to ask whether development can be renegotiated on more equal terms."

In this new SYNERGIES article, @Hafte_Gebrihet (Research Fellow at @UniOsloo and Honorary Research Affiliate (HRAf) at @UCT_news) and @danbanik (Professor of Political Science and Director of @OsloSdg at @UniOslo) say Africa does not need another grand vision. It needs to treat the vision it already has as a discipline.

🌍 The global trading system is in the midst of a period of instability and uncertainty. To help ensure environment and sustainability goals do not become a casualty of this disruption, we're asking global trade experts for their thoughts.

In this video, @bisi_akins, Associate Professor and Purdy Crawford Chair in Business Law at @DalhousieU @SchulichLaw, says African countries need to focus on three areas to ensure trade supports sustainability:

1️⃣ Avoid entrenching the problems of commodity production.
2️⃣ Better access to climate finance.
3️⃣ Carbon credits and related programmes should be about more than profits.

"Without multilateral collaboration in carbon accounting, the rise of carbon border adjustments risks creating a patchwork of regulations that overburden businesses and complicates global trade."

In this new Synergies article, @SXPomerleau, Director of Energy and Environmental Policy at the @AAF, says for climate policies to succeed, carbon accounting should not remain siloed within national borders. Multilateral cooperation is more of a practical necessity than a symbolic diplomatic ideal to ensure that the global transition to a low-carbon economy is both manageable and economically viable.
