Director @tlap1, Convenor of @DementiaCan. Director @SCIE_socialcare. Working to bring people together & make life better. New account, opinions my own.
These lobbyists are saying explicitly that they want ordinary disabled people living with long-term conditions like MS to be 'eligible' for assisted suicide. The slippery slope is plain for all to see.
In our new podcast episode, we asked @clentonF what he hopes for in a new government. He discusses the role of politicians & the opportunity of a new government to reimagine the health and care system as one that prioritises equity. Listen now: https://t.co/wYMZKS7scl #KFPodcast
In a Leader, The Times warns against“Unintended Consequences”of changing the law on euthanasia: “The trajectory of how the law has changed in other countries is a warning” it calls for “far wiser” response of significantly improved palliative care. Telegraph also urges caution:
Wow! A blow against #assisteddying/#assistedsuicide: The Times, which has always supported it, opposes "stumbling into legislation which has already revealed a deeply disturbing tendency to exceed its original remit." I hope thoughtful MPs will agree. https://t.co/bwEF5xioP9
It’s very rare for a celebrity to speak at length about a complicated situation in another country and get it right. Javier Bardem does it here, and I hope you have a few minutes to listen to this. The Spanish is beautiful and the translation is good.
Rich Amos reflects on the 1st lived experience Care Minister meeting
“It was good to hear first-hand govt’s plans & to discuss approaches that we feel could pave the way for people who draw on care & support to have a direct influence on policy design.”

Since @KierStarmer_ made a promise to have assisted suicide debated in Parliament, perhaps he can make another promise:
That he & his MPs will watch my @BBC@OpenUniversity documentary, Better Off Dead? to hear why many of us are terrified of these laws?

I hate falling out with people, but on assisted dying: your desire to have a death at the time and of the type of your choosing does not outweigh the evident risks of ill, elderly and disabled people being bullied & cajoled into agreeing to be killed. Get better palliative care.
"The government has not yet set out its detailed vision for #socialcare. It should do so, spelling out the real potential value of social care". We've updated our 'radical but realistic' vision for social care to reflect the change of government. https://t.co/L2HYtQCVoH
I want to see what the assisted dying bill actually says but I'm highly sceptical that adequate safeguards can be put in place given the state of our welfare / healthcare systems.
‘A Paralympian requested a ramp outside her house and she was offered the drugs to end her life.’
@Tanni_GT discusses the upcoming vote on assisted dying with @IainDale, warning against Canada’s legislation as an example, where policy was ‘rapidly’ expanded on.
I made my BBC documentary Better Off Dead? to explain why me & many other disabled people oppose legalising assisted suicide.
Some of us have very real fears based on our lived experience & based on what has happened in other countries where it's legal.

Thank you @clentonF@TheKingsFund I’ve been working in mental health system/service co-production for some time and I found this podcast fortifying in challenging times for making the ‘why’ case for co-production and therefore securing the investment behind it.
Absolutely no words. @DWPgovuk have cut my support dramatically (both hours and pay). I now cannot do my job.
Please help me stay in work. Even if it's just sharing to make a noise.
