This rule will make sure that most of the public funding for home care goes to the workers providing care – not corporate profit. The low pay and lack of benefits has caused a shortage of home care workers throughout the country. This is a critical first step in addressing that and assuring access to crucial Medicaid services. The nursing home reform minimum staffing standards addressing the chronic pattern of understaffing creates a mechanism that will significantly improve care in the poorest performing facilities and give workers a greater voice on the job.
We commend the Biden-Harris Administration @POTUS@VP for these landmark regulatory actions that will improve the quality of long-term care and greatly improve the lives of these dedicated and hard-working individuals providing those services. These rules are also the first major step by the federal government to address the shortage of long-term care workers -- the majority of whom are women and people of color -- caused by inadequate pay and dangerous working conditions.
This is a painful story that so many families around America now know too well: Amanda was denied the medical care she needed, and it nearly took her life.
More than 1 in 3 women in America now lives under an abortion ban, with more on the way.
Donald Trump did this.

Thanks to the more than 700 nurses who showed up today to support the nurses strike at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for strong nurse-patient ratios. The hospital must come to the table NOW & negotiate a fair contract that makes the hospital safer for patients & nurses.
Carol: "Remember: we did not go out on strike for higher wages or better benefits. Rather, we felt we could no longer participate in Robert Wood Johnson’s toxic culture of understaffing that prevented us from providing the high level of care that our community deserves."
Our Carol Tanzi is the next witness. She echoes testimony that staff ratios put crushing pressure on her. "Nursing is more than just a job for us: it’s a calling. We do this work because we want to see our patients live the fullest, happiest versions of their lives possible."
Judy Danella of striking USW 4-200 is the first witness. "One of the main reasons we find ourselves in this situation is because of chronic understaffing by hospitals, which has made the nursing profession increasingly unsafe - both for nurses and their patients." #BetterCareNow
You can also watch the hearing here: https://t.co/Lpb8Nn67hs. USW Local 4-200 President Judy Danella, RN and pediatric nurse Carol Tanzi will be testifying. Both work at @RWJUH, where safe staffing is the main issue in our current contract fight. #BetterCareNow#NursesStrike
So @RWJUH leaders declined an invite to talk safe staffing at a U.S. Senate hearing with @SenSanders in New Jersey today. But USW nurses are there in force to discuss this important topic! We'll be live tweeting in this 🧵! #RWJNursesUnited#1u#BetterCareNow
