Another Kuki woman, Hatneikim Haokip, was shot dead in Manipurโs Kamjong district, raising fresh fears over Kuki-Zo civilian safety. How many more innocent lives must be lost before accountability is ensured?
COMMEMORATION OF THE 107th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ANGLO-KUKI WAR (1917-1919)
Today marks the 107th anniversary of the Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919), a powerful testament to the courage and resilience of the Kuki people, who fought valiantly for their land and freedom against British colonial rule.
We solemnly honour the legacy of our ancestors and their enduring spirit of resistance.
On this occasion, we recall the following observations recorded by British officers and officials directly involved in the conflict:
1. Sir Robert Reid, Governor of Assam
"The Kukis displayed a remarkable degree of organization and unity in their resistance. It was a far more difficult and prolonged conflict than we had anticipated, and it forced us to deploy significant resources in what was a remote region of the Empire."
History of the Frontier Areas Bordering on Assam (1942)
"The rising of the Kuki tribes was a grave concern, and it required not only the deployment of military force but also changes in our administrative approach towards the hill tribes."
The Lushai Hills: A British Frontier Policy in Eastern Bengal (1943)
2. C. Gimson, Political Agent in Manipur
"The Kukis, whom we had hitherto considered a quiet and backward tribe, rose against us with a fierceness that was unexpected. Their determination to resist British authority, especially in the face of our military superiority, was astounding."
The Kuki Rebellion of 1917-1919 (1919)
"It became apparent that the Kukis were unwilling to submit to our authority, particularly with the demands we placed upon them for labour. This defiance was deeply rooted in their traditional independence."
Report on the Hill Tribes of Manipur (1920)
3. Major-General G. M. Waterfield, Commanding Officer, Assam Rifles
"The Kukis were no ordinary tribesmen; they fought with an extraordinary tenacity and skill. Their use of guerrilla tactics in the rugged terrain made it exceedingly difficult to subdue them."
The Anglo-Kuki Operations: A Military Account (1921)
"It was a war of attrition, where the Kukis used their intimate knowledge of the terrain to harass our forces constantly. Despite our technological superiority, we found it challenging to completely stamp out their resistance."
Official Report on Kuki Operations (1920)
4. T. C. Hodson, Commissioner of Assam
"The Kuki rebellion posed a unique challenge on the northeast frontier. Their refusal to provide labour for the war effort was not merely a question of disobedience; it was a deeply held principle of independence, which they were willing to defend with their lives."
The Naga Hills and the Kuki Rebellion (1920)
"Our failure to anticipate the depth of resentment among the Kuki tribes was a costly oversight. Their rebellion was an expression of broader dissatisfaction with our policies in the region."
Memoirs on the Kuki Tribes of Assam (1920)
5. Lieutenant Colonel L. W. Shakespear, Officer in Charge of Military Operations
"The Kukis had a strong tradition of self-governance under their chiefs, and our attempts to interfere with this structure by imposing labour demands were bound to be met with resistance. The scale of that resistance, however, took us by surprise."
The Lushai-Kuki Operations and the Rebellion (1919)
"We encountered in the Kukis a fierce and independent people. They fought with a tenacity born of their fierce attachment to their land and their desire to maintain their autonomy."
Official Military Dispatch on Kuki Rebellion (1919)

๐จ ANOTHER KUKI WOMAN BRUTALLY MURDERED IN MANIPUR BY NSCN-IM TERRORIST GANG!
On October 15, 2026, Mrs. Hatneikim Haokip of Molvailup village, Kamjong District, was shot dead while travelling to Phaikoh with her husband, Jangkhongam Haokip, and another couple, Mr. D. Paokhothang Haokip and his wife, Boishi Haokip.
Between 4 and 5 PM, the four civilians were ambushed on the road between Molvailup and Phaikoh. Mrs. Hatneikim Haokip was killed on the spot, while her husband escaped with a gunshot wound. The whereabouts of the other couple remain unknown.
Another Kuki woman has been murdered, another family destroyed, and two more civilians are missing.
The NSCN-IM cowards must answer for this killing. These Kacha Naga โrevolutionariesโ do not have the courage to fight Kuki men but will stalk and kill helpless Kuki women.
How many more Kuki civilians must be murdered before the Government of India takes decisive action?
Every killing, every disappearance and every attack against Kuki civilians must be investigated, and those responsible must be brought to justice. All crimes will be accounted for, whether by the Manipur Government or the Kuki-Zo Government.

JUSTICE FOR HATKIM HAOKIP โ STOP THE BRUTAL VIOLENCE AGAINST KUKI WOMEN!
The brutal case of Hatkim Haokip demands an immediate, impartial, and time-bound investigation. The reported rape and merciless killing of a Kuki woman, with horrifying injuries to her body, is an appalling crime that demands justice, accountability, and decisive action.
NSCN Eastern Flank, NSCN-IM, and the Shanni National Army operating alongside Myanmar's military junta must face serious scrutiny over reports of violence against Kuki civilians. Every piece of evidence must be examined, every responsible individual identified, and every perpetrator brought before the law. No armed group, political organization, or authority should be allowed to escape accountability.
Where are the Government of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Manipur Government, the National Commission for Women, and the National Human Rights Commission? Why are Kuki women and civilians still living under the shadow of violence and fear? Silence and inaction only deepen the suffering of victims and their families.
We demand an independent investigation, forensic examination, protection for witnesses, and prosecution of everyone proven responsible. The authorities must establish the facts, identify the perpetrators, and ensure justice without political interference.
A Kuki woman's life is not expendable. Her dignity is not negotiable. Her suffering must not be ignored.
JUSTICE FOR HATKIM HAOKIP! STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST KUKI WOMEN! ACCOUNTABILITY NOW!

A glimpse of how the 2023 Manipur violence began
Meitei mobs armed with sticks and spades attacking and killing Kukis in Kangvai, Churachandpur.
To this day, no arrests, no justice, and no accountability. Even though the state sponsored this and everyone stayed silent, does Minorties need freedom from this oppression?
Manipur : 3/10/2026
Khunkho Kuki Village Authority condemns the abduction of 76-year-old Hemjang Haokip by NSCN-IM militants. His safe and unconditional release must be ensured immediately. Justice and accountability are imperative.
Manipur: Suspected NSCN (Muivah) & ZUF-K terrorists abducted & murdered Hemjang Haokip from Leimakhong area. The irony is these terrorists are in ceasefire with the govt. of India & while they continue their 1990s ethnic cleansing against Kukis, no one to hold them accountable.
STOP BLAMING THE KUKI COMMUNITY WITHOUT EVIDENCE
Last night, several houses belonging to the Liangmai community were reportedly destroyed by fire, with an electrical short circuit reportedly being the cause. This is a serious tragedy, and every affected family deserves sympathy, support and a proper investigation.
What is deeply concerning, however, is the immediate attempt to blame the Kuki Community without presenting credible evidence. The United Naga Council, Senapati District Students, JTM, NPO, ANSAM, Tangkhul civil society groups and concerned MLAs must not turn a tragic incident into an opportunity for unsubstantiated communal accusations.
If there is evidence, let it be presented publicly and investigated by the competent authorities. If there is no evidence, stop making the Kuki Community a scapegoat. Collective blame against an entire community is irresponsible, inflammatory and dangerous, especially in an already fragile situation.
We therefore appeal to media houses, journalists, social-media users and content creators: please do not circulate posts claiming that the Kuki Community burned the Liangmai houses unless such allegations are established through a credible investigation. Do not post misinformation or communal narratives that can further divide communities and create unnecessary tension.
The loss of homes is painful regardless of community. The right response is truth, evidence, accountability and humanitarian concernโnot rumours, collective accusations or communal propaganda.
Let the authorities investigate the incident impartially and establish the facts. Justice must be based on evidence, not assumptions.
