Two weeks ago, Alex tweeted that he needed “a general startup person.”
Crazy twist: that person ended up being me.

Here’s the story…

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial streak. At 21, I launched my own digital marketing agency from the ground up - learning everything the hard way and building systems as I went.

A few years later, I finally landed the chance I’d dreamed of since I was a kid: a role at a fintech startup in LA. I’d wanted to live in California my whole life. But at the border, my visa was denied. Overnight, that dream disappeared.

So I pivoted again. I joined another digital agency as an account manager and immediately took ownership. Within months, I moved into Director of Operations, rebranded the entire company, implemented new processes, and hired a few of my closest friends - positioning us for an AI-driven future.

Then came the unexpected.

I’d known of Alex from high school and had followed his journey on LinkedIn for years. What he was building at Opal looked fascinating, but I never thought I’d have a place in it.

Still, I took a chance.
I messaged him about an Account Executive role he’d posted.

What I thought would be a quick coffee chat turned into something completely different: an offer for this “wear every hat” role and plane tickets to meet the team in LA.

Fast forward two weeks: I now have a 3-year TN visa and will be moving to San Francisco in January. Leaving everything behind. Starting fresh. Saying yes to the unknown.

Life has a funny way of rewarding boldness.

Consider this your reminder to keep going, take the shot, and trust that the path unfolds when you move.
