@KSPrior@RNS We live far from family, but were blessed to be "adopted" by a woman who took on the role of local grandmother. She had dinner with us on Tuesdays and came to all my kids' birthday parties and babysat and and enjoyed being one of their favorite, most beloved people in the world.
@taylorsschumann "the eternal value" as if 21st century Western church service were the eternal standard, as well as developmentally appropriate for toddlers
Seeing people come to buy fish and handing the owner, money, this cat went out and got a leaf to pay for her fish. On the first day, the owner of the shop thought this was very cute, so he gave her a small fish. Now everyday this cat comes in to buy a fish with a leaf.
This hairy lady is supposed to be Mary Magdalene. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Mary Magdalene was frequently depicted covered in body hair. You probably have Questions about this, starting with "why" and ending with "WTF". We'll try our best to answer them.
Once (2002) I had a student who hadn't learned to write well. We struggled 3 semesters in a row over composition, revision, everything. Inexplicable diction, rambling sentences, formless paragraphs, theses that tripped over their own dull incoherence. But then one day...
A little boy was sitting at the empty information desk at the airport and his dad saw him and I was expecting him to scold him but instead he walked up and said “I’d like some information, sir. How did you become such a great person?” 😭
Last Friday, CBS cancelled a segment about our clients suing Amazon for selling suicide kits to their now deceased kids. CBS’ cowardice gave me renewed clarity about how urgent this litigation is. 🧵@naomi_leeds 1/
A man wanting to jump off a bridge in London was talked down by strangers who held him for an hour until help arrived. Look at that grip. Look at the care, compassion, selflessness, and determination shown by strangers to a hurting human being.
We need more of this in the world.
As a child, I was put on a train and sent off by the government to a faraway place we’d never heard of. As a survivor of that policy, I am appalled by what governors in TX and FL are doing now. Politicians back then treated us as political scapegoats, less than human. #NeverAgain
To impose a political neutrality requirement on a university is to ban experts from using their expertise to advance American democracy. Scholarship is not neutral; that's why we need scholars. Otherwise governance is just opinion, uninformed by evidence. https://t.co/HBXC99OR0l
My beloved, Zeltinis, told me I would have to pay £3k for him to be able to leave his oil rig to come and visit me
I therefore decided to visit him instead, but he has been very resistant to it
He’s presumably just worried for my safety, which makes me love him even more
❤️
having a king is going to take some getting used to. we’re used to our monarch moving as far as they want in any direction but now it’s just one square at a time. much higher chance of being killed by a horse
