@elevenbands@highway_dave Casting all drug use as at least potentially pathological (which many such groups do, whether to maximise funding or otherwise) certainly doesn't help.
@KatMelcher@highway_dave 'Addiction' as a construct is a fallacy though. Used primarily to cast certain drug use as illegitimate/ unwarranted etc. Also impossible to parse 'sUD' criteria from harms of prohibition/resulting discrimination.
@simcha1972@ellieAPI@thechosenberg How many ppl end up with children after serious consideration, for virtuous (subjective regardless) reasons? In addition to encouraging children to be inconsiderate, this line of thinking can also veer into eugenicist territory.
@ravensspirit68 The notion that all ppl using (controlled...as off label is typical otherwise) drugs for reasons other than what is is in narrow window of 'indication' are doing so simply bc 'addiction' is central to so much of this (prohibition/ overregulation) nonsense
@ravensspirit68 In practice though, the term (and the very nebulous SUD criteria) will be applied to all ppl who use controlled drugs for any reason/ indication not considered sufficiently 'valid' (also very malleable )
