@ShankMods It ultimately its a trust issue, if I buy a game on steam today, I am fairly certain I will have access to it 10 years from now. Sony just delisted 500 movies from their customer's library. Also, some people don't have access to the internet or want a physical collection.
@KELVAEN@maximilian_ FF7 OG was a special game, it had that Lord of the Rings all stars aligned kinda feeling to it. FF7R has had flashes of that, but to me it ends up feeling more like the Hobit in comparison. Not bad, a good experience overall, just not special in the same way.
@KELVAEN@maximilian_ I believe FF7R should elevate the original execution, not strip away the mystery. The OG used the impaled snake as a terrifying, quiet environmental storytelling moment. Making it a loud cinematic boss fight just makes the storytelling feel way more heavy-handed and generic.
@Thorin I think that Franz Beckenbauer probably edges him as greatest defender of all time. I also think Carles Puyol belongs in the conversation if we are talking more recent eras as he has other qualities as a footballer and leader that make him one of the greats.
@gxxffrey At the end of the day, only sales numbers will tell. This is the first entry of the FF7R trilogy that will release on all platforms at the same time, so it should do great numbers. If it does, then Square can finally claim it achieved that mass-audience appeal it has been seeking
Whether you like FF7R or not, one thing is undeniable, the games are divisive. As a fan of the OG FF7 I fall somewhere in the middle, I really dislike almost all tonal and story changes they made to the game, but I ultimately enjoyed them as games. Does anyone else feel the same?
@TifaFan1997 Your choice of comparison says a lot. Bethesda has fallen far from what it used to be, and so has Square. I am not even a remake hater, I mostly enjoy the games. My point is that they do not deliver the same quality of games at the pace they used to. Square agrees with me btw.
@BrechaCeja Neither of the two lists was exhaustive, because the more I put the more embarrassing their current output looks in comparison. Ultimately, all I am saying is that their old model of development clearly delivered more awesome games more often. (I never said to not make remake).
@Skillful__ Square themselves used to do this all the time. They released AAA bangers at the comparable quality of the FF7 remake, year after year. The prove is that they agree with me. They are unhappy with their output and timeline in the last decade and want to change this model.
@Skillful__ Sure, here is a list of studios delivering high quality games consistently and more efficiently than Square:
1. Nintendo (Zelda BOTW, The new Donkey Kong, and more)
2. Fromsoftware (ER, Sekiro)
3. INSOMNIAC (Ratchet & Clank, Spiderman)
4. Sony Santa Monica (GoW)
Many more...
@JTglennUSA It was 32 bits, not 16, also they hand to learn how to render 3d games for the first time during this time and still delivered year after year of AAA banger after banger. Stop making excuses for their lack of efficiency today, demand greatness from the greats. They can do better.
@Perknutz You are being obtuse on purpose? First game was announced on 2015, development starts->5 years of development later in 2020 the first game comes out. Why are you not counting this as part of development of the trilogy? 7 years later we get the final entry. 5+7= 12 years.
@txkyoghxst You are counting from the release of the first game... Idk about you but I jumped off my chair when they announced it in 2015, and thats when I began counting the days. Its not like the first entry materialized out of nowhere, it took them 5 years to complete it, +7 to for 2 more
@Animex_Player See? I made a point and engaged in conversation over the internet, and I didn't even call you an idiot or anything. It turns out its possible!
@Jrange378 I am hopeful they will turn it around! The remake comparison was to drive the point to compare the same game back then to now. Square is not happy with how long and how costly it has been. I agree.
@Skillful__@SSTrihan The 3d era started after on PS1 and N64. Also, Square has spent the last decade disappointed by high costs, sluggish output, and underperforming big-budget games. They are now restructuring, cutting costs, and moving toward a different model. Look it up, they agree with me.
@Skillful__@shaunmeasom I was comparing one game because if I put their current output against their past output the difference in quality and legendary status is crazy... I was trying to be nice tbh. If you could only have one timeline which do you take? (Neither list is exhaustive btw)
