We are setting up in the gym bright and early this morning.
@Michellelorene1 A21 I thought about our classroom tables, ones a circle and ones a rectangle my ct reminds students how many can sit at the circle vs the rectangle table. The students have to remember shapes and count the students at each table at the same time. #OSUElemMath
Today, fourth grade students at Johnnycake Corners Elementary Skyped with students in Brazil. JCES teacher Angela Rietschlin and a Brazilian teacher met as members of Travel without Borders. Skype made it possible for the students to learn about different countries, cultures.
@AshleyLanghals@AdobeSpark A 20 My ct and I will model games for students before they play them! They love this because they always want to see who wins! It helps to get them excited for the game as well! #OSUElemMath
@miss_furno Visual representations have always helped me! I need to see it to understand it, I like using manipulatives with students to help them visually see and work the problem out!
Q12: In chapters 2 and 3 from CGI the strategies children use to help them solve addition and subtraction problems were discussed give one example of a time you have witnessed a child using a math strategy to solve a problem, how did this strategy help them? #OSUElemMath
@AnnRoFlo @Miss_Morris7 Our students have the number line on their name tag as well! I see them using this to help them count it’s neat to see them use their soundings instead of immediately asking for help!
@themisspeppers@DelaneyMathews1 This is very true! Sometimes I see students struggling when the number is larger than 5 and they have to continue on to their other hand.
@DelaneyMathews1 I see students in my class using their fingers as well! We also have math racks that they utilize a lot, I think it helps them to visually see the numbers!
Q11: In reference to chapter 3 from Kazemi and Hintz, let's consider the compare and connect discussion format. What are some situations you could see a compare and connect discussion being useful in your classroom? #OSUElemMath
@TheMissHirsch@Mr_MullCbus I like the idea of using technology to help include all students! I think this would help some students if it was anonymous if they are scared to share! It would then allow the teacher to see what concepts students are understanding. #OSUElemmath
@Mr_MullCbus Students who may have a harder time grasping the concept. Students also turn and talk to share how they came up with the answers while I talk one on one with some students. #OSUElemmath
@Mr_MullCbus A8: this is something I find myself struggling with in my placement, we’ve been utilizing number racks during math to practice adding and subtracting between 0-20. I have the students “show me” their answers by holding up the number racks. I then individually meet with....
@gfletchy @kellykir02 A2 Love this idea! Sometimes I feel students get “stuck” and are unsure what to write down on paper. It is important for them to think it out and try it out before having to put the pen to the paper and solve the problem completely. #OCTMChat
