We got the biopsy results back for Ethel because she had a big lump on her back, and we were absolutely heartbroken to hear that it was a malignant tumour.
When we hear news like this, we don’t just think, “Oh, that’s so sad because she has a malignant tumour.”
Of course it’s sad, but what makes it even harder is knowing that her chances of finding a home now are practically zero.
And that really stresses us out because we hate seeing a dog grow old in kennels.
We hate seeing a dog have no chance when, in reality, there may be absolutely nothing wrong with her.
The tumour may never come back. In fact, the report says it is likely that it never will.
She’s a beautiful, young, wonderful dog who just wants to love somebody.
What do you think, guys? 🙏🏻❤️
Is there anyone out there who can see past something like this?
Someone who can give Ethel a chance, get her out of the kennels, and help her move beyond the fact that she once had a malignant tumour removed?

Every time I see Willow and her babies still sitting at BARC, my heart breaks a little more. This sweet mama has done everything right. She loves her puppies, protects them, nurses them, and asks for nothing in return. Yet she and her entire family are still waiting for someone to give them a chance.

Imagine being Willow, trying to care for seven tiny babies while frightened, stressed, and confined in a shelter. She doesn’t know what a euthanasia deadline is. She only knows that her puppies need her.

Heartworm test: HIGH POSITIVE.

The puppies are approximately 4 days old and weigh between 1.2 and 1.7 lbs. Their records identify them as immature newborns.

🐾 BEHAVIOR NOTES:

Willow is described as a protective and devoted mother. In the kennel, she displays alarm barking while watching and guarding her puppies.

She needs an experienced handler who understands maternal protective behavior, respects her boundaries and can safely manage her while she is nursing.

She would do best in a quiet, clean and safe environment, and because she is currently nursing and protective of her puppies, slow introductions and appropriate separation from other dogs are recommended.

Her behavior may be heavily influenced by the stress of the shelter environment and the presence of her newborns.
