The jury has already been sworn in for this dreadful case and the prosecution is due to open the case today.

I hope the media gives it sufficient attention and the nation does not look away. We all need to see what horror lurks if the call goes out from man to man.

The husband has already pleaded guilty to 15 charges including rape. Keith Fothergill has already pleaded guilty to 4 charges including assault by penetration.

So it is not in doubt that a great number of appalling attacks took place on this poor women at her husband’s invitation.

I hope she has strong support to endure the 3 month trial of 12 men and her husband.

According to a recent report by TNH, the Nigerian government and JAS (Boko Haram) struck a peace deal following the Ngoshe attack which has been in effect since June and is likely to be extended further, the deal was paired with a ransom of $3.7 million to the group in exchange of 360 hostages JAS had taken from Ngoshe.

This means several things including that the Nigerian army is in fact in contact with JAS, and that both the army and JAS benefitted from this ceasefire to focus on their common enemy ISWAP during these past few months, the latter seeing its activity decline during that same time.

It also raises questions on whether other deals were negotiated between the two previously, as was speculated during the last major war between ISWAP and JAS in late 2025 when the Nigerian Air Force was seemingly providing air support to JAS.

Lindsay Clancy did not plan her children’s murders the day she did it.

She started laying the groundwork for a trial 5 months prior. How do I know? The evidence is clear if you look through a nurse’s eyes.

As an RN, the first thing we’re taught is that “if you didn’t document it, it didn’t happen” in regards to patient care. Lindsay was an L&D nurse. She heard that line in school and on every unit she ever worked.

Callan was only a few months old when she began “seeking treatment”. She told doctors she was depressed and anxious. She did not tell them she was suicidal or homicidal. She knew exactly what those words do. One statement of intent to harm herself or the kids and she is in a locked unit. If they even suspected she wanted to hurt anyone, it would have unleashed a chain reaction that would prevent her from completing her plan. She wanted freedom and she knew just what lines not to cross to reach that goal.

What she did do was write it down. Diary entries. Texts. Conversations with her husband and her mother. Thoughts of harming herself and the children. That paper trail exists for a reason. It is the documentation she knew a future jury would see.

For months the pattern held: disclose the dark thoughts to family and to a journal. Minimize or deny them to the people who could actually help.

Cycle through providers. We call that “doctor shopping” in the medical world and it’s a clear indicator of someone who wants specific medicines or is trying to avoid coordination between doctors. She KNEW the system and exactly how to use it.

Collect prescriptions. Zoloft, Prozac, Seroquel, Valium, Klonopin, Ativan, Lamictal, amitriptyline—thirteen medications, more than thirty prescriptions. A nurse knows which side effects to report to get a med changed or dose adjusted. The list itself became the evidence she wanted. We don’t know if she ever took any of them except on the day of the crime.

As a mom, if I were having actual thoughts of hurting my kids, I’d be the first one screaming it to every doctor, every nurse. I’d make sure I was locked away where I couldn’t actually hurt them. But not Lindsay. She did all she could to not be locked away.

When the Women & Infants postpartum program discharged her after one day because she didn’t fit the criteria, the calendar was not on her side. Callan was eight months old. The cleanest “postpartum psychosis” window was already gone. She had to execute sooner rather than later.

She planned it to the minute. As a nurse, she knew exactly how long it would take to strangle each child—about six minutes. She sent her husband on errands that would keep him out of the house long enough to kill all three and stage what was supposed to look like a suicide attempt.

Her medical education ensured she knew EXACTLY how deep and what direction to cut her wrists to ensure she wouldn’t bleed out. She knew EXACTLY how deep and where to cut her neck to avoid hitting the carotid arteries, the jugular veins, or compromise her airway. She even knew jumping out a 2nd story window wouldn’t be fatal but would look dramatic to a future jury. Every cut, every decision was calculated, cold, and with the medical training to execute the plan flawlessly (the injuries she sustained were a miscalculation from landing wrong, not the fall itself).

Lindsay Clancy is not a woman who “snapped with no warning.” or even one who was failed by her family and the healthcare system. She is a woman who spent months building a file and setting the stage so she could blame her crime on those very people while she could live out the childless life she dreamed of living.

When my book is eventually published, the public will hear much more about how the administration of Nasir El-Rufai contributed to and facilitated the atrocities committed against the people of Southern Kaduna, including accounts I heard from some Fulani inmates I met while in Kaduna Prison.

El-Rufai must not be allowed to go scot-free for the atrocities committed against the people of Kaduna State, particularly the people of Southern Kaduna.

The revelation concerning Senator Shehu Buba, who chaired the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, and allegations of his involvement in sponsoring terrorism in the country, is not new to me either. Last year, in one of my lengthy articles, I called for his removal from that position. I also called for the removal of the NSA, Nuhu Ribadu.

The painful truth is that many of these things are not difficult to uncover. What we lack is the courage and honesty to confront them. Instead, we continue to look away, politicise everything and protect powerful individuals, while innocent Nigerians continue to pay the ultimate price every single day.

At some point, the truth must prevail, and accountability must surely follow if we are to make any meaningful progress in the fight against terrorism.

I have spoken with the lady. She is safe. Her mobile phone and international passport were held by Customs who were trying to clarify some issues. She was unable to reach anyone while the process was ongoing. However, she has been cleared and released, and has possession of her properties. She has contacted her family, too.

She assured me that she is safe, and she appreciates everyone who showed concern for her safety.

I would like to thank a dear Nigerian, @YusufAdesoga, who collaborated wot me and, at great inconvenience, visited all security agencies in Doha, and eventually tracked the lady to where she was found today.

Mr. Yusuf is exemplary, and I appreciate his effort.

I must also acknowledge the lady's brother, Jibo, for sounding the alarm bell when his sister went incommunicado. He refused to back down, and his effort got millions of Nigerians united in an effort to find his sister.

I have confirmed, via the airline, that CCTV shows your sister arrived safely, pick her bags, and exit the terminal.

Because yesterday and today are more like public holidays for the guys over there, investigations are a little slow, but later today or tomorrow, we will be able to confirm if she arrived at the hotel she booked, and if she got there via the hotel pick up vehicle. Every Qatar visa booking must be tied to a specific hotel reservation. In some cases, passengers arrive at the hotel booked, and then leave quietly. DISCOVER QATAR will check to confirm the name of her hotel, and whether your sister did, indeed, get to the hotel.

I have informed the airline of fears about human trafficking, forced labour, etc. They have assured that once the hotel confirms her check-in or otherwise, the issue becomes easier to treat. If she did not arrive at the hotel, a manhunt would ensue. It is easy to track people once they have arrived in Doha.

If you have not heard from her, please, remain calm until tomorrow.

i also appreciate there are folks willing to defend those who do important ( thankless) work. Alex has done a lot of that, and anyone who disputes it is a liar.

my position is simple: in an increasingly divided country, those with platforms have a responsibility to try not to divide us further.

you can call out a problem honestly. in fact, when the problem is as serious as this, you don’t need dishonesty to make the case.

and that’s the main issue with the tweet that positions the registrar as academically unqualified for the job. that is simply not true and adds nothing to the argument.

i mean, it got people talking about WAEC, but the actual issue is now competing for attention with a completely avoidable argument about qualifications. that’s a problem with unnecessary dishonesty.

we’ve already seen enough highly “paper-qualified” people fail woefully in public service to know that degrees alone are a poor argument for competence or incompetence. if someone’s academic background is relevant to an issue like this, then it should be because it has no relationship with the portfolio. otherwise, the stronger argument is: “despite these qualifications and experience, this person has failed woefully because of xxx.”

Alex doesn’t need to obfuscate to get attention. he has passed that stage. the work he does is too important for his advocacy to become rife with dishonesty, bias or propaganda. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, doing critical work cannot become immunity from criticism.

that’s how monsters are made - when we decide that because someone is fighting a cause we believe in, anything they do in pursuit of it must be defended. no. we should call out what requires calling out, especially when it starts looking like a pattern, while still encouraging and supporting the good work when we can.
