@itcontracting@coventry_robert Given that HMRC costs are 4x the collections on the Loancharge the economically sound approach would be to close all enquiries up to 2019 … minimising cost to revenue was Rachel’s directive… HMRC should take it as a lesson learnt and free 1000s from suicidal thoughts/ actions
🚨The latest revelation in the #LoanChargeScandal is coming out tomorrow.
It exposes the disgrace of #HMRC’s whole approach & that the current highly restricted non-independent review (only of settlement terms - how to “encourage people to pay”) is a wholly unnecessary nonsense.
Being British (or Welsh, or Somalian) is a pure accident of birth, not a personal achievement in which pride can be taken. I might as well claim to be proud to be a mammal, or to be 68 years old.
One can be thankful to one’s country, but that is not at all the same as being proud. Appeals to national pride are no more than a form of racism - if I should be proud to be British, then presumably the fellow over there should be ashamed to be Danish and the lady at the bar should consider her Jamaican nationality a disgrace.
@HMRCgovuk Every time HMRC post additional examples like this it shows how the Loan Charge utterly failed to achieve its stated intention to “draw a line under this type of tax avoidance”.
A mailbox is now available to contact the Loan Charge Review “to provide evidence of the impact of the loan charge or other representations.”

Regardless of what I or anyone else think of the ToR of the review, please do send your evidence.
I simple cannot put into words the amount of stress this has put on myself & my wife
have been PAYE all my working life except for 6-7 months contracting between jobs where I used this scheme
We do not have the money to repay this

The new review is NOT the review that MPs and #LoanCharge victims were rightfully expecting
It does NOT address the concerns raised by MPs as the #LoanChargeDebate in @HouseofCommons on 18th January 2024 including:
1. The House believed that many people who used schemes were victims of mis-selling, and that in other cases employers and agencies pushed people into using them
2. That #HMRC is demanding all disputed tax from scheme users, NOT from those who recommended, promoted and operated the schemes. It is completely IGNORING the role of promoters – just like the previous review
3. It criticised #HMRC transferring the liability to individuals despite its own failures
4. It observed that #HMRC is pursuing open enquiries for schemes before 2010 despite the Morse Review. These are out of scope of the new review - crazy as these are now over FOURTEEN YEARS old
From the above, it is clear that the #LoanChargeScandal will NOT be addressed by the new “review” and that urgent action needs to be taken by @HMTreasury to correct the scope before more die & harm done

Here's my updated analysis of latest in #loancharge saga. Both the @LCAG_2019 and @loanchargeAPPG have criticised the review's terms of reference. "What has been announced today is not only a farce, but it is not actually a review of the Loan Charge.."

Im 61, disabled...HMRC demanded a payment schedule. I explained my situation & that I survive on about £20-30 a wk. HMRC then stated that unless I pay they will take my 'assets'. I said I have no assets they said "You have a house"

@gregwrightYP Independent? Not really. Also not a review of the #LoanCharge itself, but how to streamline HMRC's process to squeeze more out of more people who are unable to pay. Sad Janus backsliding from @UKLabour - a pivot away from earlier Shadow Treasury consultation language.
BREAKING: The Government has launched a new independent review into the #loancharge. Ray McCann, will lead the review. Full report and my interview with Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, James Murray here:
