For federal income tax there is free file fillable forms (usable at any income level) and for CA there is Calfile (which has an income cap)

@mollywood @kairyssdal Calfile is as good as Turbotax.

Free file for federal taxes is basically just filling out the forms yourself. But you don't have to pay postage or worry about the USPS misdelivering.
