🚨 POLICE CHASE AND HANDCUFF A BLACK CHILD AFTER SEEING HIM ALLEGEDLY PLAY-FIGHTING WITH FRIENDS

According to a witness, police saw a Black child “play-fighting with his friends.” Officers then chased the Black child down and put him in handcuffs.

A man stepped in, reminded the officers that he is a child, and made sure he was treated more carefully.

A kid play-fighting with his friends ends up in handcuffs while the other children do not.
This is the kind of moment that makes people lose trust.

On this day in 1946, The Moore's Ford lynching occurred in Georgia. The 4 victims were tied to a tree and 60 shots were fired at close range.

— July 25, 1946: The Moore's Ford Lynching occured. The Georgia lynching was a quadruple killing of:

-George W. Dorsey, who was a veteran of World War II that had been back in the America less than 9 months after serving nearly 5 years in the Pacific War.

-Mae Murray Dorsey (George's wife).

-Roger Malcolm (friend of the Dorseys).

-Dorothy Malcolm, born July 25, 1926, who was 7 months pregnant (Roger's wife).

They were accosted by a mob of white men as they headed home.

The lynching was carried out on a bridge in Walton and Oconee counties between Monroe and Watkinsville, the case attracted national attention.

The FBI investigated it but was unable to prosecute anyone because they had no suspects and very little evidence.

New publicity in the 1990's led to a new investigation, but the case has NEVER been solved.

GRAND JURY TESTIMONY:
Researcher Anthony Pitch, author of The Last Lynching: How a Gruesome Mass Murder Rocked a Small Georgia Town (2016), located the sealed grand jury testimony in the National Archives.

He sued to have the records unsealed. Despite government opposition, a federal appeals court upheld his request.

The US Department of Justice under the AG William Barr appealed that decision, maintaining that to open the testimony would undermine the confidentiality of a grand jury investigation.

U.S. law permits grand jury testimony to be unsealed in "exceptional circumstances".

On October 31, 2022, in Lake City, Florida, legally blind Navy veteran James Hodges, then 61, was walking home after jury duty was canceled.

He was stopped by a female deputy (Jayme Gohde) who mistook his folded mobility cane for a handgun in his back pocket.

After Hodges requested the bodycam footage and filed a complaint, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigated. Sheriff Mark Hunter publicly apologized, calling the deputies’ conduct “unacceptable”.

Deputy Gohde received a two-day suspension without pay;

Her supervisor Sgt. Harrison (seen in video) was demoted, received a seven-day suspension without pay, and was barred from favorable actions (raises/promotions) for two years.

Both underwent remedial civil-rights training.

A later lawsuit by Hodges was settled out of court.
