The Houston Philosophical Society began when Rice University faculty organized it in 1919 as a link to arts, sciences, business, law, and medical communities.
@kentrutter@DrewKaredes Well said about CCAL. Look west across the bay of Cape Cod and you’ll see Lisa and me in Plymouth taking part in historical stuff. The next time you and yours come to Cape Cod, let’s hoist anchor, unfurl sail, and get together at P’town, Plymouth, or somewhere in between…⚓️🌅😎
#SCOTX 🧵 from @OslerSCTX this AM:
“Tuesday, as I’ve mentioned, marks the end of 21 years I’ve been with the Court, to the day. I started to summarize opinions, as I like to remember, for then 18 members of the Capitol press corps.”

Kudos to HPS President Sonja Bruzauskas for organizing last night’s superb HPS program, “Music in a Time of Crisis.” Houston’s finest musicians joined acclaimed artist Lia Rodi to assess music & art during pandemic, disaster, & war from medieval times to modern. 🎼🦠🌪⚔️🎨

Rain and flood cannot keep the Houston Philosophical Society from celebrating its 701st dinner and 2019-2020 Centennial Year—now at 7:00 PM at Cohen House, the Rice Faculty Club, on Thursday, October 3, 2019. When you live in Houston, you get philosophical about rain and flood.
The Houston Philosophical Society’s 701st dinner and 2019-2020 Centennial Season begin 6:00-9:00 PM, Thurs, Sept. 19, 2019 with “Town, Gown, and the Roots of the Houston Philosophical Society.” Author-historians John Boles, Randal Hall and Kate Kirkland share HPS origin stories.
