Almost didn't watch "Project Hail Mary", all I knew was a teacher was sent to space to save the world. That doesn't sound promising.
It was amazing.
Especially the realism, not what you're thinking. Real in the sense that a colleague, with a doctorate, has an alternate view and gets shunned by his community. So much so that he has no opportunities in academia, forced to be a middle school teacher.
Now that's real.
That's how dismissive academia is of anyone with diversity of thought.
We could just transition social security to actual investment funds that own shares of US companies. Now people truly become part of the country and benefit from its growth and success. That 12% of income consistently invested would allow for a much greater monthly pay out than 2kish from current SS, cap monthly payments, sum still grows, when you die the balance goes to a beneficiary. Generational wealth will be created for nearly everyone.
@chamath Removing all the murder mystery/crime drama pods from the list will put you even higher. Those don't count. They are just fear porn for women.
@DudeWhoInvests Top performers in highschool were just top conformers, which was by design.
The lie sold to us was school prepares us for the real world. The problem with that is most of the people instructing in schools never entered the real world.
I have never received a threatening letter from a tech billionaire because they applied my tax payments improperly.
I have never had a tech billionaire confiscate part of my property to make a sidewalk, and if they did I'm sure the driveways and sidewalk would have been done properly.
@SenSanders But you dont. You dont care. You say things that you think will resonate with the incompetent and unmotivated mass.
There are simple fixes to problems that are a net win.
And transition social security to an investment fund. By the time people hit retirement age they will have well over a million dollars, monthly payments 3 or 4X what most people get now, and the balance can be left to a beneficiary allowing everyone to create generational wealth. This should be the only thing our politicians work on til a reasonable, mathematically, and economically possible system is created.
