In 2017, a team led by Andrew Ng published a paper showing off a Deep Learning model to detect pneumonia.
Andrew is one of the most recognized researchers in the world, and the paper showed excellent results.
But there was a big problem with their results:

I hear it commonly said that inflation is the big problem so the Fed needs to tighten to fight it and everything will be good. I believe this is both naïve and inconsistent with how the economic machine works. (1/3)
Some random musings on how the whole "AI scaling" debate. It is clear that neural nets can model any predictive distribution p(x_future|x_past) given enough parameters and data, since they are universal approximators;
I am not surprised. The tragic thing about it is that the effects of reduced creativity are difficult to measure or even notice, only at some point people may realise that there is not much new in the pipeline anymore.

Happy to see our paper from my time @Bayer published! 🥳 ChemInformatics Model Explorer (CIME), an interactive tool to inspect chemical data sets, visualize model explanations, compare interpretability techniques, and explore subgroups of compounds.

What a sight.✨ 32 years ago, I powered off my cameras forever. Minutes before, I imaged this pale blue dot; my former home.

If you were to learn only 1 method for explaining machine learning models, it should be Shapley values (SHAP)
- Model-agnostic: Use with any model
- Theoretic foundation: Game theory
- Good software ecosystem
- Local and global explanations

Love this sentence:
"We searched 5.7 million biologically diverse samples (10.2 petabases) for the hallmark gene RNA-dependent RNA polymerase and identified well over 10^5 novel RNA viruses, thereby expanding the number of known species by roughly an order of magnitude."
Are you excited about stem cell based disease modelling and studying gene regulation using #multiomics? My group will start @MDC_Berlin in July 2022 and we are hiring #PhD students, come join us - one week left to apply! More info👇👇👇
The first peptide vaccine designed to elicit T-cell immunity against SARS-CoV-2, rather than antibody responses, appears to be safe and broadly protective against a range of worrisome viral variants, including Omicron https://t.co/h81Y3PaBSu
"Collectively, these data overturn the consensus that monocotyledons cannot form graft unions, and identify the hypocotyl (mesocotyl in grasses) as a meristematic tissue that allows this process."

Webb will orbit the Sun in line with Earth so its sunshield can protect the telescope from light and heat. What’s the second Lagrange point, or L2? Glad you asked. More on our orbit: https://t.co/UXJMa6v7zB #UnfoldTheUniverse
