Charmady is without contest one of the most beautiful stretches of the Western Ghats.

En route, I found a cool café with Gen Z aesthetics (fairy lights, “ethnic” décor, open seating, plants) and wifi & washroom for the rest.

Bought some delicious coffee too.

Pahadis MUST learn from such places. Our aesthetics are neither traditional Pahadi nor erstwhile colonial.

In Malnad & Coorg, I’ve found multiple cafés, glass cubes with wood benches & urban style, that sell good coffee & baked goods.

64 years ago. 5:30 am,October 23rd 1962. Bum La Pass, near Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh
Subedar Joginder Singh and 20 soldiers of 1 Sikh were assaulted by two waves of Chinese troops, each 200 strong. They somehow repulsed both and then ran out of ammunition.
The remaining troops, led by Singh, fixed bayonets, charged the Chinese positions and almost broke through before finally being stopped by far superior numbers.
Joginder Singh was martyred and posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra.
In May the next year the Chinese returned his ashes to his battalion.
In October 2020, we finally built a monument to remember him and his troops at Bum La.
