Yes, I think it’s possible that Caleb Williams gets traded this off-season when his “perceived value” is highest as a byproduct of the Bears success this season. It’s either this off-season or before they would have to give him an extension. They’re not breaking the bank for a quarterback with his accuracy level. For example, they could easily get that accuracy level that he’s shown this season (58.1% regular season and 50% postseason) in the draft on a rookie deal. They may or may not miss out on the sporadic splash plays moving on from Williams, but I think Johnson would take consistency to build around over Williams unpredictable highlights and moodiness. Not only that, but the only reason the late game heroics have even been necessary to win games is because of Williams and his backup level accuracy the rest of the game, which is what put them in that position in the first place. Essentially, Williams has created his own 4th quarter drama.

There’s also quarterback possibilities in free agency and via trade.

Ben Johnson was stuck with Williams this season if he wanted the job, but now Johnson has a lot more leverage and the backlash would be minimal for Johnson trading Williams because the public confidence level in Chicago is high for Johnson after the season they’ve had. Fans would automatically trust Johnson knows what he is doing.

Two things were mentioned by Johnson prior to the season that were important to him to have Caleb Williams do this season 1. Clean up his body language 2. 70% completion percentage. Williams failed to do either. I just think Johnson wants more out of the position than Williams has given him or will ever be able to give him. Williams doesn’t have the maturity or the accuracy level to take this team to where Johnson is capable of taking them over the long haul. Williams doesn’t fit Johnson’s personality or what he was accustomed to with Jared Goff in Detroit.

Johnson has won this season in spite of Williams, not because of him. Johnson has won because of a better offensive line, the No. 3 run game and receivers who can pick up yardage after the catch. Johnson has worked around him. I think Johnson knows that and I believe people around the NFL know that too:
