Learning by doing!
A fantastic hands-on Masterclass at #AFSForum2026, working through how to turn CAADP commitments into practical, investible national plans.
✅Prioritizing investments
✅Aligning policy, institutions & finance
This is how we move from ambition to action.

Happy to have made the first presentation at the @EPRN conference, on ag. policy optimization and a snapshot of what we are doing with @RwandaAgri. This was followed by presentations on tea and coffee, with work that the @FAO#MAFAP programme has done with @RwandAgriExport.
Today, @SanchezMarcoV, Deputy Director, Agrifood Economics & Policy/OiO #MAFAP, visited @FAORwanda & was welcomed by Rep. @awdahir
He engaged colleagues on the @FAO Policy Optimization Tool & its role in strengthening agrifood policy ahead of this week’s @EprnRwanda Conference.
Yesterday, Hon. Min @T_Ndabamenye from @Rwandaagri hosted the @FAORwanda delegation, joined by @FAOSocioEcon, to discuss insights from an exercise to optimize Rwanda’s agrifood budget using the Policy Optimization Tool (#PolOpT), supporting smarter public spending for Rwandans.
I was pleased to meet with Claude Bizimana, CEO of Rwanda’s @RwandAgriExport , together with Mohamed Aw-Dahir, @FAORwanda Representative. We discussed
@FAO#MAFAP programme’s support for the development of Rwanda’s Tea Sector Strategy and agreed on next steps for its review.
Today, @FAORwanda and @FAOSocioEcon, with the #MAFAP programme, were proud to co-host the first session of the @EprnRwanda Conference on evidence-based agriculture & agrifood systems transformation for resilient growth, sharing the stage with partners @RwandaAgri and @BkTecHouse.
Urea prices, up 56% immediately after the Strait of Hormuz blockade began, have returned near pre-conflict levels. But the price decline may be a warning sign as farmers cut fertilizer use. Combined with a likely El Niño, this could reduce yields and push up food prices in 2027.
Better data for better decisions.
At #RomeNutritionWeek2026 (25 May), @FAO and partners explored how Cost and Affordability of a Healthy Diet indicators can inform investments decisions.

Pleased to launch “FAO and the SDGs – Accelerating Transformation through the Four Betters”. This publication highlights how @FAO is working with Members to accelerate progress towards the #SDGs through the transformation of agrifood systems and the #4Betters.
The Strait of Hormuz crisis is the latest reminder that as shocks become the norm, countries must build resilience rather than respond to each crisis in isolation. My latest in @wef: https://t.co/MeRExTHGmq
Our agrifood systems produce enough calories but not enough nutrition. Unhealthy foods are cheap b/c their real costs are not included; healthy foods remain under-supported. This episode explains how @FAO helps make healthy foods accessible for everyone.

“Small-scale producers are not just beneficiaries. They are investable partners, central to the functioning of global food systems”
At #RomeNutritionWeek, I joined @sanchezcastejon, @FAODG and @WFPChief for a timely discussion on the impact of the Middle East conflict on food security and nutrition.
Food security is macro-critical. When energy, fertilizer, transport and trade are disrupted, the effects move quickly through economies, markets and households.
But the pressure is often felt first at the first mile.
For @IFAD, this is where resilience must be built. By investing in rural producers, local value chains and stronger rural economies, we can help food systems withstand shocks before they become deeper crises.
The Rome-based Agencies bring complementary strengths to this effort. @WFP brings emergency response capacity. @FAO provides data, standards and policy guidance. IFAD invests for the long term and acts as a co-investment platform, connecting capital to rural transformation.
Working together, and with committed partners, we can help reduce vulnerability, strengthen food systems and support greater stability.

“🌍 indicators are important to raise awareness, but they only provide a single number per country. Governments need more detailed & timely information.”
