Hurricane #Polo is a Category 5 monster, with winds of 285 km/h (180 mph), and could reach 295 km/h (185 mph) soon.

Polo is forecast to skim along the southwestern coast of Mexico over the next few days, narrowly avoiding a catastrophic landfall.

Hurricane Polo is now one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere.

Hurricane Hunters just measured 180 mph winds and a pressure of 892 mb.

Only three hurricanes on record in the Western Hemisphere have ever had a lower pressure: Patricia, Wilma and Gilbert.

That puts Polo alongside the 1935 Labor Day hurricane, one of the most extreme hurricanes ever measured.

The core should stay just offshore, but Mexico’s coast will still get dangerous wind, huge surf and flooding rain through Thursday.
