Doesn't seem that long ago, but 18 years ago today, my brother in arms and my friend, Tony Downes, was killed by an IED blast outside Sangin, Afghanistan. Tony was a member of 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards of the British Army.
Going through OCS at then FT Benning, our Company went to Plains, GA & visited the church that President Carter & Rosalyn attended. Spoke with us & took pictures with each Platoon. A gentleman, former US Navy Officer, & a great humanitarian for multiple decades. #RIP#JimmyCarter
@timbuckley4413@MilHistNow Visited the location of Wereth massacre five years ago. About 20 miles SE of the Malmedy massacre location. The Belgian family that took in the 11 African American soldiers 80 years ago, maintained a memorial there for several decades. #NeverForget
@Vanguard_WW2 The Belgian beer created in honor of his story. Had some when I was in Bastogne 5 years ago for the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. Excellent beer.
@MilArchive1978 What did he do after the Afghan Communist government collapsed? What about during the Taliban rule of the 90s? What did he do during 2001 - 2021? Be interesting to know.
@BBGreatMoments To be fair, this was Todd Heltonβs Junior year, and Manningβs Freshman year. Helton got injured during the 4th game of the season and Manning took over as the starting QB the rest of the season.
