In Rafah southern #Gaza, there are 1.4 million people - tens of kilometres of people living in the streets in plastic makeshift shelters.
A military offensive in the middle of these completely exposed, vulnerable people is a recipe for disaster. I am almost becoming wordless.

"Enormous concern, fear in Rafah in the last 48 hours - we've seen some very heavy airstrikes"
@TomWhiteGaza tells @AJEnglish there is huge concern of an offensive in Rafah southern📍#Gaza - where the population is now 6 times more than before the war & one Gaza's poorest areas.
“It’s going to be deciding who lives and dies”
@TomWhiteGaza “Such a scenario would be a catastrophic failure of the international community.”

"We've lost a health clinic, major shelters- facilities that were supporting the people of Khan Younis"
@TomWhiteGaza explains how @UNRWA along with thousands of the already displaced #Gaza population have been forced to flee Khan Younis due to intense fighting over last 8 days.
Update - attack on Khan Younis Training Centre this afternoon - two tank rounds hit building that shelters 800 people - reports now 9 dead and 75 injured
@UNRWA and @WHO team trying to reach the centre - agreed upon route with Israeli Army blocked with earth bank
#Gaza
Fighting is escalating in Khan Younis #Gaza - the @UNRWA Training Centre sheltering 10Ks of displaced people has just been hit - buildings ablaze and mass casualties - safe access to/from the centre has been denied for 2 days - people are trapped.
One of the largest @UNRWA shelters in Khan Younis (southern #Gaza) was hit during military operations yesterday.
At least 6 displaced people were killed and many more injured during intense fighting around our the shelter.
Terrified staff, patients and displaced people are now trapped inside the few remaining hospitals in Khan Younis as heavy fighting continues.
I call on all parties to take every precaution to minimize harm and protect civilians, medical facilities and personnel and @UN premises in accordance with international law.
People are hungry and just desperate for food @UNRWA convoy in #Gaza City this week.
40% of the population at risk of famine.
More regular supplies needed - require safe and sustainable #humanitarain access everywhere including to the North of Gaza

#Gaza - Israeli soldiers fired at an aid convoy as it returned from Northern Gaza along a route designated by the Israeli Army - our international convoy leader and his team were not injured but one vehicle sustained damage - aid workers should never be a target.
@UNRWA
#Gaza People forced to move once again. More people in less space. Rafah in the south is now bursting at the seams. No respite. Time for a humanitarian #ceasefire@UNRWA
"We remain very concerned that once aid is in📍#Gaza the ongoing conflict is preventing us from delivering that aid"
@TomWhiteGaza @AJEnglish: Same time as the @UN Security Council, Israeli authorities were telling more people to move & signalling a broadening of the offensive.
People in #Gaza are People. They are not pieces on a checkerboard - many have already been displaced several times. The Israeli Army just orders people to move into areas where there are ongoing airstrikes. No place is safe, nowhere to go.
@UNRWA
Israeli authorities issued more evacuation orders for people in Middle Area of #Gaza to move to Deir al Balah to expand ongoing military operation.
More than 150k people impacted, area already overwhelmed with displaced including @unrwa shelters
Told @baysontheroad it is of utmost importance that the members of the @UN General Assembly realise if @UNRWA collapses in #Gaza, the Palestinian community will feel this ad the last betrayal of the International Community.

Back in #Gaza, endless deepening tragedy. People are everywhere, live in the street, need everything. They plead for safety & for an end to this hell on earth.
Our colleagues are asked to do the impossible in what is an impossible situation.

Yesterday listening to people in an @UNRWA shelter in Deir al Balah- stories of grief and loss - shocking living conditions - yet an indefatigable will to survive and look after their loved ones - very humbling. #Gaza
