Nigeria uncovers massive lithium & rare earth deposits
The deposits of platinum group metals, lithium, rare earth elements, gold, nickel and copper in Kaduna State, verified by the country’s Geological Survey Agency, are described as one of Nigeria’s biggest mining breakthroughs by local media reports.
🔸New rules require companies to process more minerals inside Nigeria instead of exporting raw materials, spurring investments into refining projects, including an $800M lithium facility
🔸Nigeria’s mining sector revenue has surged dramatically — from ~ $4.4M pre-reforms to over ~$51.3M by end of 2025
🔸The government has revoked over 3,000 inactive mining titles to restore transparency and ensure only serious operators develop these assets, says Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake
The exceptionally high-grade deposits come as the federal government pulls out all the stops to transform Nigeria’s mining sector into an industrial powerhouse that drives real economic growth.
