Impressive hour’s worth of Beach Boys live in Paris, June 1969. Months earlier they struggled to sell tickets for the ill-fated Maharishi tour. By summer 69, they were humble, the songs were skilfully arranged & Mike Love fronted the show like some benevolent Ginger Baker figure.
@notherPllanet@staticbluebat I was just getting into The Beach Boys when this came out. I had Pet Sounds and a couple of the comps. Loved this LP, especially Love and Mercy and Rio Grande. But the production sounds quite brittle or sterile to me now, which drags it down a bit.
@notherPllanet I know what you mean. Better and worse is a great description of Kokomo. It sounds odd without the chorus and the bridge. But I enjoy it. The Somewhere Near Japan demo didn’t impress me at first, but has grown on me.
@notherPllanet The original John Phillips demo of this song and his Kokomo demo are interesting to hear. Quite different. The band and Terry Melcher really reworked these songs. But I enjoy the originals too.
“We knew we had a very good album, but for it to remain relevant 60 years later, I could never have imagined that... The cream rises to the top. If it’s good enough, people will recognise that, and they did it.”

Community policing looks a bit different when the @FIFAWorldCup is in town! Our officers celebrated alongside fans, both international and local, during Day 1 of @FWC26Boston Fan Fest on City Hall Plaza!
If you haven’t seen this, take a minute and listen to this. This is the best percussion performance I have seen maybe ever but it’s been a long time. Thank you rush.
"We live in an age where the artist is forgotten. He is a researcher. I see myself that way" - David Hockney
What a brilliant soul- A monumental artist, endlessly curious until the end. RIP 💔
Remembering David Hockney, he was kind and always had a sparkle in his eye. He never stopped experimenting and is one of the finest painters of our generation.
feel like it’s the perfect cover to convey that you’re heartbroken, your homies are all going schizophrenic, the 60s are over, and you’re crying on the beach in Malibu on a lot of acid, 10/10 album, only student demonstration time feels out of place and that song also rules
Almost 60 years to the day 'Sunny Afternoon' entered the UK charts, and it's back where it belongs at the #1 spot on the official UK vinyl singles chart and 7” singles chart today! The single has broken the record for the longest time between #1 singles! A sunny day indeed ☀️
