@FDAGenSec@instituteforgov@timd_IFG An excellent session at an excellent conference. Everyone in public life should hold the principles close to their heart irrespective of the colour of their politics.
@FDAGenSec@FifeFionaEadie@GeorgeWParker The letter also says that the application for Judicial Review was ‘completely without merit’. One man’s ‘nonsense’ is; one civil servant’s, two independent examiner’s, one Ombudsman’s, one Judge’s and one Minister’s reality.
Not really much of a support for your view.
President Tom Langrish kicks off the FDA’s ARC section AGM at the Law Society Hall in London where delegates will set the union’s policy and priorities for members in HMRC for the year ahead.
It's always good to visit our friends in @AHCPS - our sister union in Ireland - at their annual conference. All the more so to hear @FDA_NI in his role as @Unions21 Director for Ireland talk about its work on trade union renewal, helping unions to build capacity & capability.
Civil servants need to be able to build careers for the longer-term across the UK, including in London where there will now be fewer opportunities.
As I told @BBCNews, we now need to hear quickly from the departments affected how these closures will be managed.
Many of the recommendations made in this @CommonsPAC report, including those on outdated technology, highlight the frustrations our HMRC members face every day. Our recent report found HMRC staff lose more than 4 million working hours to poor technology a year.
However, AI is not a silver bullet that can be rolled out quickly to create efficiencies at the scale PAC hope for, especially against the backdrop of the 2025 Spending Review. To fully harness the benefits of AI, an organisation as vast and far-reaching as HMRC requires the necessary recourses to upskill existing staff and recruit digital skills to take advantage of the opportunities offered by technology.
They accept that’s the deal because they want to do fascinating, challenging and rewarding work in the public sector. What they don’t deserve is the narrow-minded carping from the TaxPayers’ Alliance and their ilk, whose sole intention is to undermine the value of public service and the public servants who deliver them. @Lauren_Crowley@FDA_union A union totally focussed on the interests of its members, and a real opportunity to represent the people working at the heart of Government to deliver for the country.
I am delighted that Congress voted to adopt our motion on ethical government. Standards are one thing, but enforcement is another. Labour’s promise of an ethics commission needs to become a reality, with teeth and the resources to investigate quickly and effectively #TUC2024
Our @FDA_union motion on ethical government. @FDAGenSec sets out powerfully why you cannot rely on the good chap principle. We need an effective and transparent ethics and integrity to hold people to the rightly high standards of public life #TUC24
Governments with clear agendas get things done. That’s the lesson for the new Labour government, not new committees of SpAds to recruit more SpAds.
My latest for @CSWnews on the new - but not really new - recommendations from Policy Exchange: https://t.co/2EyBcPxPnA
@FDAGenSec@vixi58@ARC_Union So sorry I couldn’t be with you today @vixi58 I hope you have had a fantastic time. Good luck in your retirement, see you in August.
@FDAGenSec Barry was as nice a man as I ever met and an exceptional trade unionist. I will miss him tremendously. My thoughts are with him and his family.
