There are 3 different types of speaking in tongues, all of which are biblical.

The one most often cited by ppl is in Acts 2 when the apostles were spreading the gospel on Pentecost, and all the people heard it in their own language.

The 2nd is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12, which is the spiritual gift of speaking and/or interpreting tongues.

The last one is the personal prayer language version which is spoken of in 1 Corinthians 14, Jude 1: 12, and Romans 8: 26.

All souls are held in Sheol, but that is a place outside of time. It's not like they sit around playing cards waiting for phone calls from you via prayers until Christ returns. The souls held in Sheol don't have a line of communication to you or from you.

So you die, your soul is held there, but in what feels like an instant, you are resurrected on the last day.

Why would God forbid communing with the dead (necromancy), but then want that as a form of intercession?

We will be "asleep" in the grave until Christ returns and throws the beast into the pit. Then, believers will be resurrected and reign with Christ on earth for 1000 years. After the 1000 years, the non-believers will be raised and judged. Then the new heavens and new earth are revealed.... We never go to the current heaven. Only the new heavens, which will overlap with the new earth like in the days of Eden.

“And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt” (Daniel 12:2).

“So man lies down and does not rise. Till the heavens are no more, they will not awake nor be roused from their sleep” (Job 14: 12).

Jesus Christ speaking: “This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6: 39-40).
