@ElkinsCattleCo Anybody that sells beef knows this is a lie. Wonder who is paying this account to post this? Plus, FSIS inspection is a government service. It adds very little cost (other than paperwork at the plant and some testing that gets passed on). Paid for by your tax dollars.
It was 7 years ago today that one of the most famous @NDAWNmesonet videos was captured. Also a reminder that late April 2019 was even worse than this year.
@GGunthorp@USDA Give me a call sometime. I'd love to hear more about your operation. Curious about your kill and processing numbers and schedules. Do you export? Do you have a vet every day? 3 seems like a lot. 701-541-3834. And yes, I'm involved in leadership at NCBA but don't let that stop you
@GGunthorp@USDA What does my involvement with NCBA have to do with this? I'm still trying to figure out what the issue is. I own a couple of FSIS plants; I've helped/ran food safety for 20 years in both very small and small plants. Never had a problem with them.
@TroyHadrick The idea that ranchers should be able to kill and process without some boundaries around sanitation and safety boggles the mind. Talk about fuck around and find out. Put a couple of kids in the hospital. Find out what happens next.
@beefinitiative I don't think it's wrong to expect ranchers that want to sell retail to have to adhere to sanitary standards. They are not hard to implement and they give the both the producer and the industry protections from bad actors.
NCBA thanks @realDonaldTrump for delivering a key victory for America’s cattle farmers and ranchers by removing numerous tariff and non-tariff barriers for U.S. beef exports to Taiwan. American cattle producers look forward to this expanded market access for years to come thanks to the work of the President and @USTradeRep Ambassador Jamieson Greer.

@GGunthorp At the end of the day most livestock and meat are commodities and production of commodities across time and manufacturers is a break-even business. The free market is not designed to reward everyone, in fact it is designed to destroy those that can't compete.
@cattleguy92@BeefUSA You would spend the whole budget trying to run ads on cable/network TV. Instead, ads are targeted via digital (Hulu, YouTube) to demo's that need beef advertising, which is why you don't see them. You already eat beef. The family in San Fran or LA, they need to see it and do.
The percentage of rancher declines is far less than dairy or swine producers of the same time period. In fact overall agriculture has decline to <2% of the population. Is this a failure? No. We have the most robust agriculture sector we have ever had.
The US beef industry is a clear example of free market capitalism. And they have developed an incredible product. Demand is phenomenal. Rancher profit the next 3 years will equate to 60 years of longer term historical profits. This is a robust and successful industry. Their land bases have surged in value creating generational wealth. That limits new entrants.
Bill’s group is a small angry subset of the industry. They want the government to somehow “save” them.
The truth is this is an industry that exemplifies free market capitalism, innovation, and success.
