Had an insightful discussion with Hon'ble Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw about launching a strategic initiative to bring together Indian-origin AI researchers from around the world. Indians have made significant contributions to modern AI, from the early Transformers paper, to teams behind leading models like OpenAI’s GPT, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, and Metas Llama. We're collaborating with the best minds to build foundation models that will power India’s AI future.

A key challenge in building foundation models for India lies in the lack of internet-scale data, unlike the US or China, combined with the country’s immense linguistic diversity. To truly democratize these models, our approach will focus on the unique conversational style of Indians, which often involves heavy code-switching between languages and dialects. We plan to use synthetic data generation and reinforcement learning to train LLMs, and are committed to open-sourcing essential components, including frameworks and code, reinforcement learning data, and model weights for select models.

We’re looking to hire exceptional AI Engineers to join us on this mission.

👨‍💻 FTE: ₹40L Base + ₹40L ESOPs
🧑‍🎓 Intern: ₹1L/month

AI isn’t just about having more data—it’s about how fast you use it. India’s AI opportunity lies in building models that understand its diverse, offline-first population, enabling real-time personalization at scale.

Where do you see India in the AI landscape in a few years?

Glad to see Monolith gaining traction! Real-time ML is crucial, and recommendations is the perfect use case.

[Deedy @deedydas]

Tiktok's Monolith paper is a must read.

It shows that you don't need a social graph to make an addictive product if you nail real-time recommendations that update AS each user scrolls.

Very few great applied CS papers exist and even fewer that made a 1B+ user product!

Perfect end to a perfect week: Meeting Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA 🙌

So many exciting conversations and groundbreaking work! @nvidia and @Meta AI Summits not only offered incredible insights from global leaders like Jensen, @_MukeshAmbani, and @ylecun, but also brought together all the amazing folks in India who are driving innovation in AI. It was truly surprising to see the energy and enthusiasm here surpassing the tech weeks in SF and LA. Like Jensen, I'm betting that the next big AI breakthrough will come from India—and betting that it will be in real-time AI! 🚀
