Another family story was one my Nan used to tell. When she was a kid, her brothers and sisters (she was rhe youngest of 11) used to tell her that the police made everyone move house every few months or so as a way to explain why they were constantly being evicted

She was always caught - an unaccompanied women driving a car attracted attention back then, I would imagine. Eventually she left city life behind for a quiet life on the mid-north coast where she lived out her days alone. Seems to me like that was what she wanted all along.
